Nice material but get your scissors out(07/03/2010)
These are well made and durable, but as a reviewer posted under the .30 cal patch post, they are too large as is. They can be used with a loop patch with difficulty, but really need to be cut for ease of use. Compare sizes between these patches and other thinner cotton patches and you will see what I mean. These .223 patches really fit the .30 cal and the larger patches really fit a .45 cal. Brownells should mention that these are for loop cleaning tools only. If the military issues these in these large sizes, they would be hard to use in a stress condition. A standard .22LR patch is 7/8" and a .223 patch is only slightly larger. These are twice as big and thick. You cannot apply moly lube or wrap these around a jag no matter how you cut them.
Terrible(27/02/2011)
These patches are frayed and leave threads all over. If you are expecting clean, white, debris free patches you will be disappointed.
cleaning patches(21/12/2011)
Used this type patch 45 years ago in the army worked great then works great now. And yes you will get a few loose strings but no problem.
Best 5.56mm Patch(10/10/2012)
.22 Patch is too small to adequately clean the 5.56mm barrels, these are just right.....
.223 Mil Spec Patches(25/12/2014)
I have used these for years in and out of the military in all situations. They have fabric texture on one side and soft on the other, by design. They have always frayed at the ends, easy to dispose of, no big deal. Correct size for .223 that I have always used is 1.25 inches, never had a problem in any ARs with these. These do a fine job, better than other types..
Too big for .223/5.56 (14/01/2015)
I tried cleaning my AR .223/5.56 using these patches and loop tool...ended up snapping my cleaning rod. These are WAY TOO BIG, do not buy for a .223 caliber gun. Who wants to sit there and cut down 1,000 patches. Buy slightly smaller ones, not these.
Perfect with a Dewey Jag(18/12/2015)
I was a bit leery of ordering these after reading that they did not fit well in the bore. I ordered some anyway and was pleasantly surprised to find that when coated with solvent and rolled onto a Dewey Jag, they fit the bore perfectly. Sure some of the end strands of thread unraveled but that is the nature of the beast. These will be all I order from now on for cleaning my .223 rifle bores.
Cleaned well enough and fit snuggly in the barrel with a Parker/Hale style jag. Just makes a mess with threads falling out of the patches
cleaning patches(19/07/2009)
these are great patches, I know only buy these in both sizes for all my cleaaning needs. I just cut them to size if I need a smaller patch. They are sized to fit a loop not a jag.
Perfect patches(29/10/2009)
Like the previous review, they are great patches. I cut them in half for 30 cal needs and use them full size for my .45 acp pistols.
THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT(23/07/2010)
In my years in the military and cleaning everything from M1 Garands, M14 to M16 I never used a jag to clean my equiptment, always used the loop. The loop was standard equipment issue. So if these are GI "issue" it stand to reason that they are for the loop only. Hey, you are getting twice the patches for the money when you cut them up. Happy safe shooting.
GREAT PATCHES(11/08/2011)
Good for cleaning anything .30 and up. I use them in my 30 cal rifles, 9mm pistols, 45 pistols and you can even use them in 12ga with a 12ga jag
