Brownells USA An essential checkering tool 08/11/2014

This tool is so handy that it should really be included in the starter kit. It can be used for straightening crooked lines, but it has a lot of other uses as well. It is a coarse, 90 degree file that cuts in both directions, so it's perfect for cutting those first, critical lines when you're roughing out the pattern. You can also use it to extend lines, and once you get to the border you can use the pull stroke to make the lines meet.

It's also useful when you re-checker worn stocks or handgun grips, as it makes it much easier to bring the lines straight across screw holes, bald spots and other obstacles.

The only negative thing I can say about it is that it's a bit too coarse for softer types of wood, you have to use a light touch so it doesn't stick or tear the wood. No biggie though, this tool still gets 5 stars.
