I love aero precision products and this is my second build with them. Fit and finish is excellent out of the box and the quality is superb. Be careful when assembling as the version with the fde finish scratches very easily. Driving a roll pin in I marred the finish pretty badly (I know be more careful, but it happens). I also managed to scratch the top by the rails when I had the upper sitting on my bench. Would have rated 5 stars but I know this thing will end up looking terrible after it spends some time in the deer woods going up and down tree stands. Just know if you want the rifle to stay pretty, the standard black hard coat anodized would be a better bet.

For my 3rd build, I chose the AP upper matched to an AP lower and there is absolutely no wobble between the 2 pieces. Fit and finish is awesome and IMHO as good as Spikes if not better. Can't go wrong.

Nice fit to my Aero lower purchased at a different time. Mine had a little extra finish in charging handle track and pivot pin hole making them a little tight. A little work and they loosened up fine.

Aero Precision makes one of the highest quality uppers and lowers. For my forth build, I chose AP and am so satisfied with the fit and finish that I`ll be using them for my 5th. From the roll mark, it seems that AP supplies uppers for Spikes. My AP upper fits my Spikes lower very well and from pics on Spike`s site, the same roll marks can be seen.
Very happy with AP. All my future uppers and lowers will be from AP.

Used with this an Adams Arms piston conversion, the reciever bushing took a lot of force to get in place and shaved some metal off when seating it. Other than that this worked well, for a standard DGI build, it would have had no issues.

For the most part these are good upper's. Although we have had quite a few issues with their finish. They seem to be ok with Mil-Spec barrel nuts, but when used with Free Float tube and rail nuts they need the threads cleaned up. Also we have seen issues with the charging handle opening having a lot of extra coating inside. The T-marks and the laser engraving is very nice though.We have used them on a lot of our custom uppers overall they're ok but usually require work to be used properly.

Bought this for a project gun I'm working on for a friend. The finish on mine was excellent. It matched up very well to the Midwest Ind. T- Series hand guard and it mated up to my LRB lower with no issues at all.

I installed the dust cover, forward assist and a charging handle with no problems at all. Fit and finish is very nice. The T-marks are not as crisp as I've seen on higher-end receivers, but for the money you won't be disappointed. The M4 cuts line-up nice to the M4 barrel extension feed ramps and the fit was as snug as it should be. The BCG cycled normally. I didn't know what to expect given the price, but I trusted the reviews and I am glad that I did.

Bought this upper to replace my old school A2. Nice fit no problems to mention. Have approx. 100 or so rounds through it so far and no complaints. Like it so much I just bought another one for my new build.
If I had to nit-pick, the flag gets covered by my Magpul front sight.

For the price, I've not found a better fitting & finished upper receiver. I've used several 'higher priced' upper receivers & the dimensional differences between them & this one are within expected manufacturing variability of a capable manufacturer & at the 'better end' of the Mil-Spec tolerance when it comes to tight fit. The Takedown Pin Lug & Pivot Pin Lug snug to moderately snug laterally to make a secure horizontal plane fit between all of my lower receivers. The holes though the lugs are well placed in reference to the receiver's mating surface to eliminate any perceived vertical movement on all of the various lowers that I have.
Maybe an annoyance for some, but things are tight enough to where I have to 1st insert the pivot pin, then push the upper receiver back w/ moderate force on the lower receiver in order to push in the Takedown pin. For my purposes, it's not a battle rifle where this extra assembly step could be considered a serious issue in the heat of battle; although not the most 'ideal' way to ensure solid lockup, this 'tightness' aids in the solid mating between lower & upper which for me is desirable in my purposes of accurate target shooting.
Haven't measured the barrel extension mating surface for 'perpendicularness' to the axis of the barrel bore/bolt carrier, however my highly objective "finger wedged between the barrel & free-float tube test" says things are aligned & centered correctly where no perceptible canting of the barrel is noticed :) Also, the barrel's receiver extension fits nice & appropriately snug in the receiver.
Making precision components for something based on relatively loose goose mil-spec tolerances for the consumer market always has increased risk for the manufacturer because your parts are expected to fit with other lesser manufacturers who may or may not have good process control; often times uninformed consumers are quick to blame a precision piece for difficulty in fitting of various components so there is a need for balance & solid practical knowledge between fitting appropriately tight & simply fitting. From my one sample, & other comments throughout the web, it appears Aero Precision is a capable & knowledgeable manufacturer who rides the upper end of the tolerance range as this upper fits 'very tight' to 'fairly tight' with all of my lower receivers that range from precision billet receivers to worn out, randomly assembled plinker receivers. No need for an "Accu-Wedge" or other gadget to get an acceptably tight upper to lower fit from my experience.
Again, very high quality for a great price! More expensive receivers may have a tad bit more consistency in cuts, alignment, etc from piece to piece in a whole production run... But the end result with this particular Aero Precision piece appears every bit as good for half the price! I've bought no-name upper receivers for similar prices as this Aero upper where the only positive comment I can honestly give is that "It works for the purpose & didn't cost much". The T-markings & American Flag are a nice touch at this price point & considering the tight lockup, it's a bargain. Will definitely buy again & look forward to trying out an Aero Precision Lower in a future build.

Everything Aero Precision sells is of the highest quality! Their upper receivers are no exception. The fit is perfect and there's no play between the upper and lower if you use an Aero lower with it. I use Aero uppers and lowers exclusively when I build ARs. Buy with confidence.

I received the Aero Precision upper from Brownells very quickly along with other items for a new AR build. They know how to deliver. I was very disappointed in the finish on the Aero upper. It was almost chalky and anything you do to it leaves a mark including simple handling. I had to clean up a lot of excess finish out of parts holes in the receiver including having to file extra gunk out of the front gas port hole. The fit to the lower receiver (a Seekins, which has a great finish) is good overall. I would have returned it in all honesty (not something I normally would do) but I had already done some laser engraving before I came to realize how poor the finish was. I would not recommend this upper in the future.

I bought this upper to go with my JD Machine lower. The fit is flawless. The flag looks beautiful. The only thing I would say negative about this is the finish seems a step down from my lower but still looks great. It will be getting a OD green dura coat anyways. Buy with confidence.

Mated this with an AERO lower, Perfection. SPL15 covered most of the details. But I want to add that few AR receivers are made this good. My RRA doesn't fit this well. I will choose AERO whenever possible.

The first thing I looked at was the flag on the rail and as I held it all I thought was 'Merica.
The finish is superb and it matches my Palmetto State Armory lower perfectly. The casting is a little different from the lower by the mag release button but I mean, c'mon...
There is also a slight defect in the machining/casting right above the forward assist boss but the coating is flawless and it fits the lower without so much as a wobble. I do have a gap of about .003" all along the joint with the lower but the pivot and takedown bosses are such that the fit is solid.
I would have rated 5 stars if not for the slight manufacturing defect above the forward assist but it's so trivial I think I'll keep it and just give it the 4 star rating.
My current gun is a distance shooter and for my next build, a carbine, I'll be buying another of these because for the price I'll take it.

Got 2 of these for each of my current builds; one in black and one in dark earth. Both were flawless when received and the finish has held up nicely even with a couple of hits with a punch to drive in the forward assist pins. Went with Aero based on the previous reviews and, 500+ rounds later, couldn't be happier!

I've built 14 rifles now and for the last 3, I've used AP uppers and lowers for my builds. the AP uppers fit tight with no wiggle in every lower I've tried them on. The fit and finish are A+, I've put 2,000 rounds thru my last build (.300 AAC Blackout) and it's still tight and looks like new. AP is all I will use from now on.

High quality part. Very good finish. My upper showed no tool marks or defects at all and the finish matches my RRA lower exactly.
The fit of the takedown pin lug to the lower receiver was VERY tight. Tight to the point that I could not fully seat the upper the last .001" into the lower without lightly tapping it with a mallet. I used a file on both sides if the lug and just kissed it. More like burnishing as no aluminum shows through the anodizing. Now the pin slides right in and there is ZERO movement between upper and lower. There is a .0015" gap all around.
I also ran a Brownells upper receiver lap through it to square it up. Totally unnecessary. After a few seconds I checked the pattern to see how far out of square it was and was pleased to see a 100% pattern already. Square from the factory.
The barrel extension was also a tight fit requiring a mild tapping with a mallet to seat the barrel completely into the upper. For an accuracy build I couldn't be happier.
I have since purchased 4 more.

I'm in the process of putting my first AR together. I had previously bought an Aero Precision lower from a local gun shop. I was impressed by the overall look and finish of that part and then continued to do my research here on Brownells. I had found this upper and had planned on getting it when the Brownells product alert email hit my mailbox. 15 minutes later it was on the way. Shipping was supposed to be 3-5 days and it was here in two days. Perfect condition, FAST shipping, and an exact match to the lower. I couldn't be happier. I've decided to make my first AR in .300 AAC Blackout. I'll update when the build is done.

Takedown holes are not round but are oblong. Rollpin hole for forward assist too small and does not line up; looks like it was drilled from 2 sides and pin will not go through! Cheaper to throw it in the trash, which I did.

I usually prefer billet receivers over forged because usually fit and finish is better, however, when you must build a rifle on a lower budget and must used forged receivers - go Aero Precision. They are literally the same receivers that Spike's Tactical puts out but without the tacti-cool spider/punisher/badger logo. The fit and finish of this upper is very nice, and the engraved American Flag at the top of the rail is very well placed. The top rail is also engraved with T markings. Very little to no play between this upper and any forged lower I've used so far, including their own Aero Precision lowers. Can't go wrong with this company or Brownell's service.
I have bought two of these uppers so far and I am sure I will buy again. This is a top quality item. Quality craftsmanship and finish.

Would not fit.Had to drill retention pin holes to
spread them out a little and had to clamp it shut to
get the rear pin in.

Used two for refurbishing two Colt 6520's. Undersized barrel channel made for a nice rift fit. Fit to lower was perfect and swapping over port cover & forward assist was a breeze. Will definitely be using these again for future builds.

Making precision components for something based on relatively loose goose mil-spec tolerances for the consumer market always has increased risk for the manufacturer because your parts are expected to fit with other lesser manufacturers who may or may not have good process control; often times uninformed consumers are quick to blame a precision piece for difficulty in fitting of various components so there is a need for balance & solid practical knowledge between fitting appropriately tight & simply fitting. From my one sample, & other comments throughout the web, it appears Aero Precision is a capable & knowledgeable manufacturer who rides the upper end of the tolerance range as this upper fits 'very tight' to 'fairly tight' with all of my lower receivers that range from precision billet receivers to worn out, randomly assembled plinker receivers. No need for an "Accu-Wedge" or other gadget to get an acceptably tight upper to lower fit from my experience.
Again, very high quality for a great price! More expensive receivers may have a tad bit more consistency in cuts, alignment, etc from piece to piece in a whole production run... But the end result with this particular Aero Precision piece appears every bit as good for half the price! I've bought no-name upper receivers for similar prices as this Aero upper where the only positive comment I can honestly give is that "It works for the purpose & didn't cost much". The T-markings & American Flag are a nice touch at this price point & considering the tight lockup, it's a bargain. Will definitely buy again & look forward to trying out an Aero Precision Lower in a future build.

Everything Aero Precision sells is of the highest quality! Their upper receivers are no exception. The fit is perfect and there's no play between the upper and lower if you use an Aero lower with it. I use Aero uppers and lowers exclusively when I build ARs. Buy with confidence.

I received the Aero Precision upper from Brownells very quickly along with other items for a new AR build. They know how to deliver. I was very disappointed in the finish on the Aero upper. It was almost chalky and anything you do to it leaves a mark including simple handling. I had to clean up a lot of excess finish out of parts holes in the receiver including having to file extra gunk out of the front gas port hole. The fit to the lower receiver (a Seekins, which has a great finish) is good overall. I would have returned it in all honesty (not something I normally would do) but I had already done some laser engraving before I came to realize how poor the finish was. I would not recommend this upper in the future.

I bought this upper to go with my JD Machine lower. The fit is flawless. The flag looks beautiful. The only thing I would say negative about this is the finish seems a step down from my lower but still looks great. It will be getting a OD green dura coat anyways. Buy with confidence.

Mated this with an AERO lower, Perfection. SPL15 covered most of the details. But I want to add that few AR receivers are made this good. My RRA doesn't fit this well. I will choose AERO whenever possible.

The first thing I looked at was the flag on the rail and as I held it all I thought was 'Merica.
The finish is superb and it matches my Palmetto State Armory lower perfectly. The casting is a little different from the lower by the mag release button but I mean, c'mon...
There is also a slight defect in the machining/casting right above the forward assist boss but the coating is flawless and it fits the lower without so much as a wobble. I do have a gap of about .003" all along the joint with the lower but the pivot and takedown bosses are such that the fit is solid.
I would have rated 5 stars if not for the slight manufacturing defect above the forward assist but it's so trivial I think I'll keep it and just give it the 4 star rating.
My current gun is a distance shooter and for my next build, a carbine, I'll be buying another of these because for the price I'll take it.

Got 2 of these for each of my current builds; one in black and one in dark earth. Both were flawless when received and the finish has held up nicely even with a couple of hits with a punch to drive in the forward assist pins. Went with Aero based on the previous reviews and, 500+ rounds later, couldn't be happier!

I've been building AR's for decades and Aero makes the best uppers and lowers of all I have used. The pricing and quality are on point, always reliable, no scuff marks, or dimensional issues. I've built 14 rifles now and for the last 3, I've used AP uppers and lowers for my builds. the AP uppers fit tight with no wiggle in every lower I've tried them on. The fit and finish are A+, I've put 2,000 rounds thru my last build (.300 AAC Blackout) and it's still tight and looks like new. AP is all I will use from now on.

High quality part. Very good finish. My upper showed no tool marks or defects at all and the finish matches my RRA lower exactly.
The fit of the takedown pin lug to the lower receiver was VERY tight. Tight to the point that I could not fully seat the upper the last .001" into the lower without lightly tapping it with a mallet. I used a file on both sides if the lug and just kissed it. More like burnishing as no aluminum shows through the anodizing. Now the pin slides right in and there is ZERO movement between upper and lower. There is a .0015" gap all around.
I also ran a Brownells upper receiver lap through it to square it up. Totally unnecessary. After a few seconds I checked the pattern to see how far out of square it was and was pleased to see a 100% pattern already. Square from the factory.
The barrel extension was also a tight fit requiring a mild tapping with a mallet to seat the barrel completely into the upper. For an accuracy build I couldn't be happier.
I have since purchased 4 more.

I'm in the process of putting my first AR together. I had previously bought an Aero Precision lower from a local gun shop. I was impressed by the overall look and finish of that part and then continued to do my research here on Brownells. I had found this upper and had planned on getting it when the Brownells product alert email hit my mailbox. 15 minutes later it was on the way. Shipping was supposed to be 3-5 days and it was here in two days. Perfect condition, FAST shipping, and an exact match to the lower. I couldn't be happier. I've decided to make my first AR in .300 AAC Blackout. I'll update when the build is done.

Great value. 7000 series aluminum, nice anodizing, would have liked to see a antifriction coating on the interior but still nice. Checked the face for true and was impressed, made for a easy build. All threads, pin holes, markings were great. Fit was great w/ different lowers. Should have bought six.:)

Takedown holes are not round but are oblong. Rollpin hole for forward assist too small and does not line up; looks like it was drilled from 2 sides and pin will not go through! Cheaper to throw it in the trash, which I did.

I usually prefer billet receivers over forged because usually fit and finish is better, however, when you must build a rifle on a lower budget and must used forged receivers - go Aero Precision. They are literally the same receivers that Spike's Tactical puts out but without the tacti-cool spider/punisher/badger logo. The fit and finish of this upper is very nice, and the engraved American Flag at the top of the rail is very well placed. The top rail is also engraved with T markings. Very little to no play between this upper and any forged lower I've used so far, including their own Aero Precision lowers. Can't go wrong with this company or Brownell's service.
I have bought two of these uppers so far and I am sure I will buy again. This is a top quality item. Quality craftsmanship and finish.

Would not fit.Had to drill retention pin holes to
spread them out a little and had to clamp it shut to
get the rear pin in.
Very nice finish but pin holes are wacked.

Ordered this before Christmas and charge didn't go through. Called and got issue corrected and had my package 2 days later! WOW! Good job Brownells! Put this upper on a Anderson lower and it fits great. No problems with any fitting of either pin. Got this while on sale and it is a smart purchase on or off sale. Using this for my first AR build and very happy. Get this upper, you won't be sorry. Will purchase again as needed.

I purchased this upper to replace a polymer upper that had failed, and after looking at the reviews I placed the order. It arrived in tree days and the part did not disappoint. The finish was flawless, and the fit onto the Core lower was snug, but without being too tight.

Used two for refurbishing two Colt 6520's. Undersized barrel channel made for a nice rift fit. Fit to lower was perfect and swapping over port cover & forward assist was a breeze. Will definitely be using these again for future builds.

Nice cast upper for a very fair price. Zero issues with finish, design, or install. They make another model without forward assist - i will consider that on future builds since it will weigh less & require less parts for the build. I expect quality will be the same.
