A Perfect Mount.(17/06/2012)
Over the years, I have tried several different AK side rail mounts. My search for a great one has come to a screeching halt. This MI AK side rail scope mount by Midwest Industries is without a doubt in a league of it's own. The design, material, hold zero, even it's looks, can all be summed up in one word...Superb. The design of the locking lever is great in that it is compact, easy to make the initial adjustment, easy to use, and it will absolutely not come loose until you want it to. Another nice feature of the mount is that the rail is positioned down close to the AK's dust cover. When the rail is empty, one can see the the iron sights. Also, the dust cover can be removed without removing the mount. The best thing about the lower altitude of the rail is that it makes for a nicer cheek weld. The nice matte finish of the mount has no light reflection. The whipped cream and cherry on top of this mount is the fact that it is made here in the US of A. Seeing as how there are NO negatives to this mount, the only thing needed to give it a 6 star rating would be to receive it as a gift. Considering the price of it verses what it is and Brownells service, I don't want my money back.
Best I have used(09/01/2014)
Solid Low profile mount that attaches and removes quick. This mount puts your optics the lowest for proper eye alignment with correct cheek weld. T numbered and will work with AK74, AK47, and cheap chinese aftermarket siderail mounts.
Excellent Product(01/10/2014)
After reading the other reviews and deciding i wanted a mount that would keep the traditional look of my AK but would allow me to put on modern optics, I decided to purchase this mount from Midwest Industries. I can tell you this is a very nice mount made in the America, it's well built, easy to use, and fits perfect without changing the original look of my firearm. This mount sits low and provides plenty of rail for a red dot or scope. I liked it so much I'll definitely be purchasing another. If you want a solid mount to add optics to your AK this is the mount to purchase, I'm very impressed with MI products. Thanks Brownell !
Best ak mount for the money(11/04/2015)
I have several AKM rifles from different countries in different calibers. I have purchased and used just about every mount on the market. This Midwest Industries mount is by far the best mount for the money. I have not only used this mount at training classes that required 2000 rounds be fired in three days but I have also used it for work purposes. I can not say enough good things about the strength and functionality of this mount. If you are looking for a way to mount optics to your AK pattern rifle this is an excellent choice.
Quality mount(05/07/2015)
I bought this to replace my awful off centred Russian built mount (I won't name the guilty party). The Midwest mount is as I expected, great build quality, centred to bore of rifle, easy to adjust for mount tension and is nice and low for good cheek weld. All in all, the best out there for an AK scope mount. Many thanks Brownells.
Good Mount(26/09/2015)
I chose this mount because I intend to mount a red dot sight on my SGL 21-61 and wanted the function of a side mount over other systems. When I received this mount the first time, the locking lever and hardware were missing. I returned it to Brownells and they promptly exchanged it for a new one. It is a well made, high quality mount, but on the Saiga receiver the mount cants to the right as well as touching the receiver cover on the left side. I don't believe that this is MI's fault as I also purchased a high quality mount made by a different manufacturer, and it does the same thing, cants to the right. Given that AKs from different countries (or even different factories in the same country) can vary widely in their dimensions, I'd say the problem is with the rifle. So this is a well made mount, but not for an SGL 21-61 with the Saiga receiver (unless you don't mind putting shims under the mount).
not the best but solid.(09/01/2016)
It says "1913 rail" but yet Aimpoint T1 micro & several other optics I've tried... The tightening bolts bottom out before securing to the mount. Even a quick detach throw lever optic (which is stupid on a quick detaching rail) will not remotely be secured. Wont fall off but wobbles all over the place. Maybe I got a fluke out of spec rail but its most certainly not true 1913 rail.
IF it would be a true 1913 rail? This would get a 5 star as it is a solid build piece that easily attaches & unattached from the weapon. Easy adjustments but with it not securely accepting any of my high end optics that fit any other rail... Its a flop. Seems I'm the only one so far feedback wise who has this problem so maybe quality control at MI was taking a nap the day mine was manufactured.
Doesn't fit stamped DDI AK(08/07/2016)
Pros
-Works
-Solidly built
Cons
-Doesn't fit the rifle I own, DDI Stamped AK47. The rail mount is to the right of center, relative to the bore axis.
Secure Mount(07/04/2017)
I used this scope mount for an Eotech HWS on my Saiga-12 shotgun. It replaced a foreign-made mount that would fall off the shotgun under recoil. The MI mount is beautifully made (as all MI products are) and very secure on my Saiga-12 which is used in 3-Gun action shooting.
