Great tool(22/11/2009)
Excellent idea. Makes the job much easier because you don't have to worry as much about scratching the receiver.
Perfect tool for the job(17/01/2010)
This works perfectly! No more trying to use standard round punches. Must have tool for the AR builder.
The best tool for the job(14/03/2010)
I love this tool. If you've ever marred your lower trying to hammer in that tricky bolt catch roll pin, this is the tool for you. Assuming you protect your lower receiver with electrical tape, this roll pin punch will lie flat against your lower without marring anything. It's a limited use item, but its well worth the price if you've ever gouged the finish on your beloved build. Keep in mind, if you misuse this hardened steel punch, you can still damage your lower.
AR-15 Bolt catch pin punch(20/01/2011)
Great tool don't install this roll pin without it. I recommend a starter punch and Blue masking tape on the receiver too.
Use this for Removal and Installation!(22/03/2011)
It doesn't get better than this. Installing the Bolt Catch Roll Pin on your AR can be a nerve racking experience, even if you cover your receiver with tape to prevent scratching it because you can really screw up the pin itself if you don't do it right. The hard part is holding the bolt catch in place, while driving this tiny pin. You really need this tool to align the bolt catch and roll pin from the left side, while driving the pin in from the opposite side with your roll pin punch. I don't know how anyone does a clean build without this tool. Buy it and never look back!
Works Great(14/08/2011)
Does a perfect job and works great.
A "Must Have" for your AR Builds!(16/01/2012)
Awesome tool! Works perfectly! Installing the bolt-catch pin on your AR lower can be somewhat tricky and frustrating without the right tool and can damage your lower...don't take the chance. USE THIS TOOL! I recommend getting the roll pin holder set as well. You WILL be glad you did! Thanks Brownells!
Amazing pin punch!(09/03/2012)
It is a little pricey but well worth it. I was recommended this product from my friends at ITS tactical, once I got it in the mail I was a bit worried it would break due to it's thinner profile but it definitely stands the abuse and it's now my favorite tool on the workbench! I highly recommend it if you plan on building your own AR style rifle or pistol or if you work on alot of rifles.
Works but better off to get the set IMO(22/04/2012)
It works well, but I didnt find it necessary.
In fact if I had to do it all over again I would just buy the whole AR-15 punch kit (749-102-021) for just a bit more. The kit will have a punch that will work just fine for the bolt catch roll pin and others.
You'll like it(14/08/2012)
If you EVER need to remove the bolt catch pin, this is the absolute best tool I've used. I also use a little tape "just in case." Don't be a cheapskate. Buy this tool.
Great tool(04/11/2012)
Although it's a single purpose tool, it came in very handy. Definitely please with the purchase.
The right tool(16/12/2012)
The tool is well made and it is as it appears in the catalog. I will still use masking tape for insurance. Don't want to mar the finish.
A must for AR builds(16/03/2013)
I bought one of these before I ever build an AR after seeing multiple videos and reading various horror stories of people scratching up their lower receivers during the install of their bolt catch roll pin. I've since used it on about 16 builds and haven't yet marred a receiver. A must have product.
Makes my day easier!(04/05/2013)
Works as described. If you don't want to scratch your upper and don't feel like taping everything up. Buy this. This fits the bolt removal pin, as well.
FAST DELIVERY.. FASTER THAN PROMISED(30/10/2013)
The quality of the punch is one I don't have to defend. If you're looking at Brownell's , you already know their stuff is the best.
This got here faster than other things I ordered before. No hoopla, just great service.
Bolt Catch Punch by BROWNELLS(06/11/2014)
THIS IS A MUST HAVE IF YOU WORK ON A AR15/16 THANK YOU BROWNELLS
Bolt Catch Pin Punch(25/06/2015)
Very well made. Flat on one side so you won't need to be concerned about scratching your lower unit. Can't go wrong with this tool. Works much better than a nail.
Perfect(12/03/2016)
Just what you need to remove the bolt catch roll pin on your AR15 or AR10. I had one that needed to be removed and it took care of the job in 3 seconds. Order one and leave it in your toolkit. You will thank me later.
Great tool(18/03/2016)
I am disassembling an AR and did not want to damage the finish. This tool removed the bolt release catch pin with no damage to the finish and I would believe that it would do the same when installing it. It has always been an issue installing this pin without damaging the finish.
Must-Have Tool for Builders(20/10/2016)
Utilized punch for both removal and installation of bolt catch roll pin; also works extremely well for installation of gas tube retainer pin. Has stood up to almost daily use with no sign of bending or deformation. Rock solid tool that gets the job done right.
Great for ARX-100 Trigger Work(06/06/2017)
This is a great tool for an AR bolt catch roll pin and works well, but an unexpected benefit is this pin just by chance happens to be sized exactly right for removing and reinstalling the Beretta ARX-100's safety roll pin. The milled out side is perfectly sized so that it rests smoothly against the ARX's receiver and does not mar or stick like a regular round punch would. It even works if the pin has to be driven from the rear, as the punch is sized just right to rest on the ARX lower's latch without the latch getting in the way of your hammer. I'd consider this an essential tool for working on the ARX-100 trigger.
Ultimately too pricey and fragile(16/07/2018)
It's a great idea ... after installing 8+ bolt catch pins without one I figured I'd give it a try. Ponied up, spent the $18, and yes, it was a bit handier than a standard round-handled punch. On the next build though, I dropped it off my bench (38" high) and it broke. So I picked up my tried-and-true old round punch and finished the job quickly with no issue, just like I've always done. Ultimately for $18 this punch doesn't solve world peace. I would say it's a little better than the standard punch, but at the end of the day this was a very expensive single-use tool and now I'm right back where I started. So I really can't recommend it at all.
Kind of expensive for one little punch..(26/09/2018)
Kind of expensive for one little punch but it did make uninstalling a normal bolt catch and installing the Geiselle mariner catch a ton easier. I broke my original punch trying to get these darn things out so I didn't start with this thing.
If you're installing a bolt catch do yourself a favor and attach the bolt catch to the rifle with a punch first, then move the punch out of the way with the roll pin you're driving in. This will keep everything lined up.
Cons: it did bend a little bit installing the second pin. I was beating the poo out of it though.
