Low-profile, flattop-mounted, polymer sights deploy instantly at the touch of a finger to provide backup sighting if a primary optic fails. Streamlined contours mean there’s nothing to snag on brush, sling, or other gear when folded. Spring-loaded ambidextrous release mechanism lets you hit the grooved tab on either side of the sight to deploy, and lock it in place. Hitting the same tabs retract the sight when you're done. Uses less than 1" of MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny receiver rail space and locks securely in place with the included steel crossbolt. Provides the same height over bore as standard A2 iron sights. Front sight must be mounted on a railed forend on the same plane as the receiver rail to witness correctly with rear sight. Not compatible with railed gas blocks or the MOE handguard.
Reinforced, injection-molded polymer, Black, Dark Earth, O.D. Green. Heights measured from top of rail to top of sight. Front Sight - 1.5” long deployed, 2.5” (6.3cm) long folded, 1.2” wide, .5” high folded, 1.5” high extended. Sight post .070" (1.7mm) wide.

Solid but Flawed(11/03/2016)
The MBUS are affordable, and their easy deployment is another big plus, but I haven't been thrilled with their function as field-ready iron sights. My review of the rear sight unit will address my grievances toward its oddly squared-off aperture piece, but the front sight is also a minor failure in my book. I've found that traditional "bunny ear" wings and crescent or circular shields can help to "frame" the front sight in the round aperture of a peep design, which is important when your eyes are literally trying to center a square peg (i.e., the front post) in a round hole. Unfortunately, the angular, in-swept wings of the MBUS don't help much with this, failing as they do either to match or oppose the contours of the aperture in a way that helps reference the point of aim. My ability to land consistent on-target hits noticably improved when I switched to a "bunny ear" design, so it's more than just an impression. That said, I'm sure everyone's eyes and brains will process these images differently. The bigger problem from a functional standpoint is that moderate wear on the retention plunger for the sight post (from initial zeroing, replacing the post, and rezeroing the new post) was enough to warp or weaken the spring until it no longer snapped to when the post was set, barely holding it in place. (And I did use the included plastic tool.) While it didn't quite lose function, I question its longevity in these circumstances. For all that, though, the affordability and overall quality of the piece still earn it some merit as a backup unit.
