The answer to a 26 in barrel at 1000 yds(06/06/2010)
I started shooting long range with a 26 inch Atkinson Barreled .308. Velocity wasn't the problem, the trajectory was. Going from 900 yards to 1000 yards I needed 5 minutes of up elevation; I HAD 1-1/2 minutes. I ordered Farrel's 0ne piece scope base with 20 MOA built in--problem solved. Great product.
Well made, but tall(14/04/2012)
Very well made and solid. Packaging was bullet proof. Installed on Savage 110 in 338. Be aware that the base is 7/16" from receiver to top of the rail. This sets the scope centerline quite high, even with low rings. With a 56mm objective and medium rings there is still 1/4" between the objective bell and barrel.
I bought it and I will buy another!(30/09/2013)
The fit was perfect no bedding needed it is thicker than my other mounts which for me just means it is stiffer. I had no problem using a standard height ring since I have a heavy barrel my gap at the bell was 1/8". If you have a sporter barrel it would leave 1/4" I am guessing, but height should be determined from the cheek weld not by the space between the barrel and the bell of the scope. I like it were it came out and the craftsmenship was superb!
Excellent Base(28/02/2010)
This base is installed on my duty rifle and has withstood a great deal of abuse. The base was easy to install and has just enough room for installation of goodies like cant and angle indicators. I also like the allowances made on the receiver mating surfaces for bedding material should it be needed to "true up" the installation. The mount also provided just the right amount of adjustment in the weapon system at long ranges (1,000+ yards) to prevent the need of having to max out the scope's elevation and then adding hold over.
REM. 700 SHORT 1-PIECE MOA BASE(03/12/2010)
The install of this base went perfectly. It makes for a rock-solid mount that mate with a pair of steel tactical rings that I installed atop the rail. I can't wait to shoot it!
Excellent on Savage Rifles(23/01/2011)
Farrell one piece bases are the best I have found for all Savage actions. I use them to build accutrigger or old style actions. Heavy, but that goes with the steel construction. Rugged, has increased the accuracy on the rifles I have used them on. Holds zero. Good machine work, American quality.
fits great on my Rem 700 sps 20(20/01/2010)
This base fits great on my Rem 700 SPS Tact 20" .308. However, the mounting screws were not that great. They are not meant to be backed out once you torque them down. Even a tad. The screw heads ended up stripping rather easily. I was trying to make sure everything was going to line up correctly (scope, base, rings) so I backed them out after all the parts looked lined up. I also wanted to apply loctite on the screws. That's when the heads ended up stripping out. The heads are a star allen head. I had no other option than to torque them down. The base comes with the tool. I think a regular allen head might have served better.
As far as function, my cold bore (utilizing 30mm steel tact rings, FA Enterprises P/N 246-000-013, and a 30mm Bushnell 6500 2.5-16 elite with mildots) was three inches low at 50 yards but dead center. The second shot was right on top of the cold bore. I adjusted my dope in four click increments and dialed in nicely. The base and the rings were a great combination. I was not at a long distance range so 50 yards was the farthest shot I could take. As far as durability, I think the base will hold up fine. I'll deal with the screws when I come to that problem. I hope they don't back out on their own. The front ones backed out fine without stripping. If it weren't for the cheap screws, I'd give this product five stars. I wonder if Brownells would give me replacement screws if I asked?
Nice groups 100-300yds(06/04/2010)
I finally got to a range that let me shoot at 300 yards. The rail, Tact rings (Brownells), and the Bushnell 6500 elite are a great combo for the Rem 700 SPS 20" barrel. At 100 yds my cold bore was 1" high right. I adjusted my dope 4 clicks down/left and hit the bullseye on the 2nd shot. I did a 5 round group and all were touching. At 300 yds I was hitting 4" plates by holding over with my mildots. So far the screws have not backed out.
There were guys with much more expensive rifles right next to me and they were not getting anything better than 4" groups at 100 yards. When I got done, they stopped me and asked about my rig.
It's hard to just review the rail because other factors really dictate how the rail helps with the groups. Bottom line. I'd order this rail 10X over.
Railroad spike(07/11/2012)
This is a very nice rail, the machining and fit was perfect on my Rem.700, however, it is stupid tall, this thing is over half inch thick and weighs over a pound. With a 40mm scope the objective bell has over 3/8" gap to the top of barrel with the lowest rings I could find. The pictures are deceiving.
Great rail(12/06/2013)
I had no problems with this mount or the screws for that matter. I had called Farrells about the screws they are a T15 Torx and they come with instructions to use 20 to 25 inch pounds. If you torque them correctly and do not use the loctite this base fits so close it will not come off anyway I have been shooting it for 6 months without a hitch and took it off with no problem. But use the right wrench do not use an allen wrench. The screw are tapered to ensure that it centers the mount there is no lining it up needed. I also like the 1/2" hieght of the base my standard rings worked great for a 56mm scope bell.
Impressed(07/08/2013)
I was unsure after reading reviews from this site but a shooting buddy told me to get it anyway. All I can say is wow! Yes it appears to be tall compared to all others on the market but talk about built to out last anything on the market. It worked perfect on my rifle with standard rings with .100 clearance I ended up with a stronger mount and the right height. I also debunked the screw issue stated below. I had no problem with instalation it fit like a glove no bedding needed at least with this action I thought the way Farrell's controls the screw depth with the base was genious. All the screws are the same length so there is no looking for the right length of screw. Great product.
The best I have found(22/09/2013)
I found some comments negative and called the manufacturer. The customer service from Farrell's was over the top. I was told if I was not happy with anything to call them and it would be taken care of. I purchsed the rail and I will be buying more it fit great I had no screw issues and it worked fine for height as far as I was concerned I had about 3/16 clearance from the scope bell to barrel. If you are using high rings the gap would be more but I use mediums and lows which worked great. They did tell me to not torque over 30 Inch pounds, that any 6-48 screw will start to twist at 50 inch pounds and will break at 60 inch pounds every time and that many people just over tighten these small screws so be careful with any small screw, its not a lug nut for your truck. Very friendly folks.
Best Fit so far(28/09/2013)
Install was simple, the fit was great the screws were a perfect length, I love this rail wish I had found them sooner.
Solid mount(30/03/2010)
Fit and finish are excellent and the holes line up perfectly. Plenty of access room for a top loading action. Height- .440 so with low (.250) rings, a 50mm object will clear on my setup. Weight- 6 oz. That is heavy when compared to Brownells full length aluminum picatinney base at 2.1 oz. But.... if you need to mount a ring at the extreme end of the receiver to help deal with eye relief issues, the last groove to the rear will take a Warne Maxima (.75 wide) ring with .06 of the base still showing. I have not found another base that will allow a ring to be solidly mounted that far to the rear.
I love it(26/10/2013)
It made my rifle look cool! I was able to get the eye relief I needed with room to spare and plenty of room for shell ejection or single shot loading. The fit was flawless and its made in the USA.
Excellent product made in Missouri!!!(29/07/2010)
I bought this product second hand from another officer who was "renovating" his rifle. His loss was my gain!! Another law enforcement friend was building his rifle up for sniper school and I turned him onto Farrell. Come to find out, Mr. Farrell was only a very short drive from his house. My friend recieved a custom rail that extended for night vision and a set of matched rings. You can't ask for [...] a better product!
No regrets.(11/11/2010)
This unit is superb. Machined ends align perfectly with receiver ends, as does both ends of the port. The center rib combined with the absence of rail slots in the center should add substantial strength. Mount holes aligned perfectly. Manufacturer recommends bedding the mount. Screws and wrench included.
awesomw(24/02/2010)
I have it mounted on my savage 10fcp .308. The base is very durable and well machined. Perfect fit. I leveled my rifle by the barrel, one on the forward section of the buttstock and a third on the base after installed: And all 3 levels were leveled perfectly. Extremely Highly Recommended. If i end up buying another rifle. I WILL DEFINETLY purchase another base from Farrel Industry.
