Not worth the time(21/10/2010)
Ok make sure to get ALL the information before ordering this. It is going to cost you.
1) Need to have an excellent frame clamp or the darn thing will keep moving around. 2) need to make sure to get the Micro Meter and that is another 300 dollars. 3) Get a smooth hammer (heavy one) you will need to beat on the rails on the frame and it does make a lot of marks. The hammer i purchased did more damage than good.
Not sure what the answer is to make the items work, maybe more skill but i will say that it did not work well for me.

These are tools for the professional; well made, precision ground and essential for propper fit. if you know what you are doing, these are the cats meow.
Work well, IF you know what your doing(15/02/2015)
I've used these extensively to lower frame rails on 1911's. They work, BUT It requires patience and proper setup and tooling. Your frame has to be well supported with an aluminum mag well spacer and locked up in some type of non marring vice. As for peening the rails, A well polished tip on a wide punch can do the job but for a truly professional look I suggest you invest in the speciality peening wedges made just for this. If you decide to use a ball peen hammer, make sure the surface on the flat side is mirror polished. If you do the above, take your time you'll do fine.
