EXCELLENT PRODUCT(31/12/2011)
THIS IS A HIGH QUALITY WELL MADE PART. IT IS HARD TO FIND A COMPANY THAT MAKES ANY GAS BLOCK LET ALONG A LOW PROFILE BLOCK FOR THE SMALLER A2 "PENCIL" BARREL WHICH I HAVE ON MY BUSHMASTER. EVEN AS A CERTIFIED ARMORER I AM ALWAYS CARFUL AND HESITANT WHEN REMOVING AND INSTALLING GAS BLOCKS TO BE CERTAIN OF GAS PORT ALIGNMENT SO YOU DON'T WIND UP WITH A SINGLE SHOT AR!! THIS BLOCK SLID EASILY ONTO THE BARREL...TIGHTENED UP SNUG WITH THE 3 SET SCREWS AND ALIGNED EXACTLY FOR PERFECT FUNCTION. DESCRIPTION DIDN'T MENTION THE BLOCK COMES WITH A NEW GAS TUBE ROLL PIN WHICH WAS A NICE SURPRISE!! MIDWEST PRODUCTS ARE TOP NOTCH AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM
QUALITY PRODUCT(11/08/2012)
USED THIS GAS BLOCK ON MY CUSTOM BUILD, EASY TO INSTALL AND LOOKS GREAT.
Great product!(09/03/2013)
There are not many options for the .625 diameter barrels. This block has a good finish and fit great on a Bushmaster pencil barrrel. This locks down with 3 set screws and is very solid. I like tha fact they include a new gas tube roll pin also.
Great block for the money(15/06/2010)
This is a great block for the money. MI makes some great stuff. They told me that this .936" block will fit a .940" barrel. That is not true. It was so tight that it had to be pushed on my a hyro press. Stick with the .936" barrels and your set.
Rugged all steel(14/05/2012)
Purchased to build a 308 AR. All steel and rugged. Price compared to others what pompted to purchase.
RE SASS DPMS Barrel (DO NOT USE)(06/03/2016)
Brownell's was out of the DPMS 0.936 in. gas block so I ordered
this, yes it's a well made product, nice & heavy for abuse, but will
not fit the DPMS SASS .308 bbl. as I found out trying to pound this gas block on the SASS bbl., the gas tube hole on the block is lower than the thick bbl., so I put a little wrinkle on the gas tube,
that said, it's a well made product, if I didn't break it trying to get on the SASS bbl., it won't break. Saving it for another build with a need for 0936 bbl
way to easy!(05/01/2010)
Instlation was a snap! and it works like a champ! Strong construction and perfect fit to M4 conteuer barrel
Great Low-Pro(08/06/2011)
Installed on my Govt' profile barrel easily. Snug fit and did not require any drifting so it was perfectly sized. has an over sized gas port making it easy to line up. has a flat portion on the bottom for you to use a level. Comes with one gas tube roll pin, lock tight, and three count them three set screws. I know this baby isn't going anywhere. It's a great piece of kit.
THE BEST I'VE FOUND(03/11/2011)
I used this LP gas block for a couple of rebuilds. It's made of heavy steel and fits the barrel snug. I liked the three set screws and they have a raised ring on the end that contacts the barrel and it bites into the barrel when screwed in. You don't have to dimple the barrel with this set-up but I do anyway just for piece of mind. The block comes with everything you'll need, the block, gas tube roll pin, 3 set screws with allen wrench and liquid thread locker. Like the other reviewer said the block has an enlarged gas port to allow for error during the install but it's really easy to put on. My Daniel Defense rail forends fit over it with room to spare.
Extremely Low-Profile - Easy Install(12/11/2011)
I ordered the Midwest Industries .750" low-pro gas block specifically to review for my fellow AR-15 builders and enthusiasts. I used this gas block on my newest AR-15 build and it worked perfectly. Because I was using a YHM 12" free float handgaurd on a 16" Daniel Defense barrel, I needed to ensure that I selected a gas block that would sit low enough to fit under the rail with room to spare. I couldn't be happier with this gas block.
From the moment I opened the box, I was impressed. This gas block has good weight and is made very well. The finish is excellent and it installed very easily. It slid onto the barrel with no problems and the oversized gas hole was a plus.
This was the first gas block I have ever installed and I was worried about aligning the gas port holes....not with this block. This gas block has an oversized gas port hole which gives a little room for error when installing it...however, since it is so easy to install, it wouldn't have been an issue anyways.
This gas block comes with thread locker, gas tube roll pin, the gas block itself, three steel set screws and an allen key. Gas block slides onto barrel and secures with the provided steel set screws. Once tightened it is super secure and I couldn't budge it with my hand when I tried to turn it.
It couldn't have been easier to install and I have already ordered another to help my buddy with his build. I recommend this gas block to any who wants to fit it under a free-float handgaurd. Looks greats and is fairly priced.
Gas hole alignment(25/01/2012)
Maybe everyone who installs these knows this, but for the hobbyist and first-time builders, here you go.
Gas hole is centered directly across from rear (receiver end) set-screw hole. Rotate gas block 180 deg. so rear set-screw is centered over hole. Pencil line edge of block on barrel and rotate back to position (or measure with feeler gauge to shoulder). This will give "optimal centered" lateral position along barrel length (aligned to pencil line). Use level on flat of receiver, and flat of gas block bottom, to set final position. Three set screws lock it down tight. I did dimple the center set-screw hole to ensure long-term position. Comes with a red loctite-like product for set screws.
Excellent(15/04/2012)
This gas block is awesome. Ricks review on how to install this block is spot on. It will fit under any handguard I know, it looks great, its solid as can be, and it works like a dream. I installed it and shot over 200 rounds out of it without dimpeling the barrel and it never moved, so dimpeling is probably unnecessary, but i did it anyways. If you want to you can take the middle screw out and dimple it with a drill press. Re install the set screw and repeat with the other set screws. Makes it real easy.
Good Fit & Looks(14/07/2012)
Bought the .750 Low-Profile Steel Gas Block from Midwest Industries for my old DPMS pre-ban build. Going from the old A1 upper/handguard to a flat top/aluminum free float (also from DPMS). The fit was perfect and it covers all the bare metal from the original gas block/front sight. Block is low enough for most handguards and would allow rifle length floaters to be used with carbine length gas systems.
Top Of The Line(17/06/2014)
This thing is a tank! Dont waste time and money on anything else. With three set screws it just wont move. If you dimple the barrel on all three screws it will last to the end of days. Low profile worked great under a Fortis REV free float rail. Installed easily over Colt factory barrel.
The best gas block.(05/12/2014)
In my opinion, this is probably the best set screw gas block you can buy. As another reviewer said, they are built like a tank. I think they will fit under any rail, including the slim versions. I also like that this gas block has 3 set screws for extra holding ability. Once they are tightened down, the gas block isn't moving. I dimpled the barrels of my first two uppers that I built using this gas block. But, the last one I recently built, I didn't bother. I'm that confident in it staying put. These will be the only gas blocks I buy from now on.
Also, the gas block comes with a pack of Vibra-tite and a gas block roll pin, which is a nice touch.
Great product(21/03/2015)
I only use these gas blocks for my builds. Someone recommended these to me some time ago and i've never looked back.machined well, nice finish and the fit is exceptional i have yet to mar or scratch a barrel using these. So consistency is there . The price is even better and comes with gas tube roll pin. you will have to time it with the gas port on barrel if not using handgaurd end cap such as on A2 handgaurd. It also looks good at the end of the barrel if not using an extended handgaurd also covers-up old unsightly gas port area and brings a nice finish to an upper build. Buy with confidence.
A disappointment(03/01/2016)
Finish was poor; more of a cheap blued look than the quality phosphate finish I expected from the photo. Fit was not as precise and tight as the Syrac, or VLTOR gas blocks that I have used. Brownells return service was excellent however and that's why I buy from Brownells.
Great Buy(25/01/2016)
I have a couple builds in the works. Purchased this gas block to replace the stock A2 site block on my Colt Hbar. Looks great and fit my barrel perfect. My only complaint is that the set screw holes were not milled to 1.375 to align with barrel's taper pin channels. The rear set screw fit one channel but not the front. I doubt there will be any issues, but I found it curious why this wouldn't be standard. I will be purchasing another in the very near future.
Great value(29/06/2016)
I have installed a number of these gas blocks. They are very easy to install and with the three set screws it is easy to line up and went tight it stays put. When I build again, this is the gas block that I will use.
Tried 2, neither fit(09/02/2017)
Purchased for use on a VooDoo 16" barrel. Barrel measures .749. First gas block I received measured out at .743. Contacted Brownells and their amazing customer service sent me a replacement. I finally got time to try it and the new one would not go on either. New one measures out at .745. Tried heating the block and freezing the barrel and still could not get it on. Google search turned up that I'm not the only one that has this issue with them. Purchased another brand and it installed with no issues at all.
