Puts Finish Polish On Shotgun Bores That Is Truly Outstanding

Hundreds of abrasive "balls" mounted on a flexible shaft - the fastest, easiest way we've come across to clean and polish older barrels or put a mirror polish in new ones. For used barrels, the Medium-Coarse hone, followed by the Fine, removes rough and tight spots and brings the bore to a bright finish that you can see and feel . . . just run a patch through it before and after; the difference is amazing! We found too, that we could feel tight spots during honing and spend extra time on them until they were evened out. On new barrels, the Fine hone by itself will bring the factory finish up to a beautiful, mirror-bright finish that's a real customer pleaser. Easy to use: chuck in a variable speed electric drill; wet the hone with Flex Hone® oil; start the drill and insert the hone into the barrel from the breech end (if possible). As it cuts, a slurry of abrasive and oil develops to help speed the cutting action. Flex Hone® available (shown below) in sets and individual hones for 10, 12, 16 and 20 gauge barrels as well as .410 bore. Also, special-sized hones for 10, 12, 16, 20 gauge chambers and .410 bore. SPECS: Flex Honefor Barrels; 10, 12, 16, 20 ga., .410 bore. 33" (83.8cm) long in Med.-Coarse grit (red tip) or Fine grit (light blue tip). Flex Hone for Chambers; 10, 12, 16, 20 ga., .410 bore 12" (6.5cm) long, fine grit (light blue only). Set includes Med.-Coarse & Fine barrel hones, Chamber hone & 1 qt. Flex Hone oil, for 1 ga.

Medium grit is 180 grit silicon carbide and Fine grit is 800 grit aluminum oxide.

All I can say is "Wow!" I purchased a new 870 "Tactical" with a choked 18.5" barrel. I used el-cheapo Winchester promo shells to break it in. I soon discovered that these shells have problems with many guns; sadly this 870 is no exception. The general consensus is that the chambers on susceptible guns are not polished well enough. My chamber looked fine to me but I figured I'd give this Flex-Hone a shot anyway. Not being able to shoot cheap ammo is not a good thing to me. Well, after I taped off the depth, soaked the brush with several sprays of silicon oil & chucked it up in the drill I got to work. 20 seconds later I was done. Hard work to be sure. I can't believe how smooth & shiny the chamber is now. My only anger at this point is that Remington didn't do this job before the gun left the factory. Seriously took me all of 10 min start to finish. A factory worker could do it in about 10-20 seconds. Come on! Polish the chamber already Remington.

too short (27/05/2011)

I figured the 12 inch would be long enough to handle this old 410 I was restoring for my grandson- but it wasn't- there remained a 3 inch section in the middle that I could not hone- It did a beautiful job on what I could reach but the center section well it didn't look too good. I had a bit extender but it was too large in diameter to get into the barrell. I ended up with a wirebrush with some steel wool on it and did a pretty good job- I would like to see an extension that would fit inside the barrell.

This system slicks up a shotgun barrel in no time and it looks great. Good for polishing up old barrels or putting a custom touch on new guns. Easy to use with a good hand drill. The Flex Hone Oil can be messy so make appropriate preparations to work space.

I am upping my game this turkey season with a new Leupold shotgun scope on top of my Beretta A400 Extreme. New Rhino turkey choke, Nitro shells should be lethal. Buddy told me I should polish the bore and chamber to tighten up groups and add some lethality. He described an arduous hours long process with many steps. I did some research and found the Flex Hone system. Sounded too good to be true. Bought it because I trust Brownell's. Received it today. Kit contains both 400 and 800 grit bore rods, one 800 grit chamber rod and a quart of Flex Hone's cutting oil. I swear it took no more than 20 minutes to polish both chamber and bore to a mirror shine. If you want an ultra shiny bore, this is the product for you. Ten passes in and out is all it took. Don't overdo it as you might take off too much steel. Watch Flex Hone's video for instructions. I didn't wash it out with soapy water as they suggest, just dry patches until they were clean followed with a slightly oily one.
