MAGNA-TIP® Bit, made to fit the windage nut that secures the S&W rear sight leaf. To use: Drill out staking, hold nut with Spanner and unscrew the screw. To install: Hold new nut with Spanner and seat screw. Always turn the screw; never the nut. Because it is fragile, and can break if you turn it, the Spanner is not guaranteed against breakage.
SPECS: 1½" (3.8cm) long. .154" (3.9mm) diameter.

Fragile aint no joke(12/04/2013)
There's 2 in the pack, one was slightly bent, tried to straighten it and it broke with almost no effort. Ran the new screw through the sight to check the fit and the screw sheared. So I'm ordering a new sight, screw, and another pair of these little wrenches so I have 3 tries to get it right. I would try something else but there isn't anything else.
Fun to break(22/05/2013)
The prongs are particularly delicate. You would be better served to take a small flat blade screwdriver and grind a notch in the middle of the blade to make your own spanner. Save your money.
Really Poor Quality(19/12/2013)
The points on this spanner are so narrow and thin that they are useless for any purpose. They bend and break even with finger force directly on the bit body. I had to make my own tool from a screwdriver to get my sight disassembled.
Just terrible(27/12/2014)
They made the legs on this WAY too long, so they break with even minimal pressure. The fact they send them in packages of two give you hint of just how fragile this tool is.
Not really the right tool for the job(25/03/2016)
This is not the right tool for the Smith and Wesson revolver rear sight spanner nut. The blade tips do NOT fully seat into the spanner nut slots because the tips are too thick.
Yes, it can be made to work.
Also, the legs are much too long, making the tool more fragile than it needs to be.
But, since Smith and Wesson no longer offers the correct tool to the public, I guess this is the best we can get.
Good luck not ruining the spanner nut or breaking the spanner tool.
Use of the tool(04/01/2017)
To remove the old screw you break the screw and buy a new one save the spring and detent. You don't use the tool for removel. The tool is used only to snug the nut on assembly. You then insert a punch in the center to peen it to keep it from loosening up. You may have to modify the tips a little. I will only recommend it to someone that knows what there doing.
Worked perfectly. Read instructions!(24/06/2017)
The instructions that came with this bit set are indispensable. Follow them and replacing the blade in a Smith revolver sight will work perfectly. I did it on my first try without a glitch and that seldom happens. Follow the included instructions!
Garbage(22/09/2017)
I had read all the poor reviews about this product but I ordered it in spite of those because I could not find any spanner bits to remove a rear sight blade on a S&W anywhere else except Brownells. Turns out I should have listened to the reviews. This product is junk, do not buy. I bought it and waited for it to be delivered and as soon as I got it both bits broke right away without even loosening the windage nut at all. So now I'm going to have to just take it to a gunsmith to finish the job. I called customer service and they were very helpful and ended up reimbursing me 100% (although at first they only wanted to reimburse me for the cost of the product, and not the shipping). My advice is to just have your local gunsmith do this job or find a good quality spanner bit somewhere else (which proved impossible to me). Good luck
Made of too soft steel(18/03/2018)
One had bend pins on arrival, the second bend doing first use.
