soft duty(21/08/2013)
used mostly for optic mounting, I have found the metal in these bits to be of inferior quality. They are very soft and the "teeth" of the bits have stripped at under 15 inch pounds (with no damage to the screw heads).
Soft Bit Because It Is Supposed To Be(12/08/2017)
I am writing this review while buying another bit because I wore one out. But it is not a bad thing. Being in a hurry, I accidentally used too small of a torx bit on a pair of scope rings. Luckily these bits are made out of soft metal, or else I would have damaged a customer's screws while he was in the store. These bits are designed to fit perfect and are designed soft so they will do no damage to a firearm.
Overall, this is a good product as long as you use it as designed.
Soft Torx bits(03/11/2017)
The bits are of inferior quality. They are of very soft construction, which means they don't mar the gun, but they will twist off at 15 in/lb. and then you have a problem with the torx head inside the screw!
Not the best(28/10/2011)
Ordered these to assist with weapon maintenance at work. Received them in a timely manner and then attempted to put them use. Unfortunately the tools are not strong and two failed (bent/broke) the first time they were used and that was with very little toque being applied. Be careful they don't work; I thought it would be a nice compliment to my magna tip stuff but was sadly mistaken.
Poor quality(16/02/2013)
I ordered these some time back. Tonight, I used the T10 to remove a sight base screw. The bit sheared off at a weird angle leaving part of the bit in the sight base screw. I tried to remove the bit using pliers, however, the bit disintegrated in the grip of the pliers. It appears that this is a powdered metal item. The bit could not be removed from the screw. I ended up cutting a slot in the screw to remove it with a traditional slotted screwdriver. It cost me the sight base. DO NOT BUY!
Poor Product(06/01/2014)
The only reason I give these bits one star is to enter the review. I purchased these bits to address some fairly delicate repairs on clock works. I used the T5 and T6 bits the same day I received them, and neither of them survived the first use. Upon application of the very slightest amount of torque, they turn to powder. I was able to remove a couple of screws, but barely able to replace them. I am still looking for replacements, but the small-sized Torx bits are very hard to find. Nevertheless, Brownell's should not sell inferior tools like these.
