Perfect fit(23/10/2012)
Dropped in without any alterations on my Colt Delta Elite. Doesnt match the brushed stainless finish exactly but holster wear will take care of that.
A must have addition to any 1911.(23/02/2013)
Just finished installation on my para GI expert and couldnt be more pleased with appearence and feel. A radius jig is a must for installation. Take your time and be patient and you will be very pleased. BTW I polished the beaver tail to a mirror finish but that just my prefference. Now lets go puts some rounds through it.
If you like learning by doing ...(10/04/2010)
I am happy with the finished product, but I had to really work at it. The directions that come with this product are illegible and useless. I gave it only three stars based on that. If you are okay with learning a lot and have the time (took me about 8 hours, next time will be half of that or less) then this is a good weekend project. I put it on my Para G.I., because it was biting my hand. You will need to re-finish the frame afterwards if looks matter. Have a good set of metal files, wear gloves when doing the filing, and you might want to put several layers of tape all around the filing area in the event of the inevitable slips.
Wilson Combat, it doesn't get any better(14/08/2010)
Easy to install. Solid, high quality product.
Fitting required.(21/01/2011)
Ordered for my colt delta elite, installed with the recomended jig. Good idea. Quite a bit of fitting requirered. But once installed functioned flawlesly. Worth the effort.
I would buy again(28/04/2011)
Take your time and it will turn out great. Need to buy the jig.
Perfect fit Springfield Armory Mil Spec(10/02/2012)
This is my first attempt working on 1911s. I own a SA Mil Spec 1911-A1 and it is a sweet gun. I changed the B tail grip, hammer, and sear. It was fairly simple with some help from youtube vidieos. I did not have any problem with the original grip safety on the mil spec just like the looks and feel of the Btail better. I am very happy with Wilson Cambat quality and prices. Also I am very pleased with Brownells service and prices. This is my first but not my last purchase from Brownells.
Casting Issues(12/03/2012)
I bought this grip safety for a new build. I inspected it and found excessive flashing from the injection mould process. It was located along the groove for the hammer strut and on the trigger stop tang. Wanting to move along with my project, I filed the flashing off. I was not completely satisfied that I had to do this much finishing work, I ordered the Bullet Proof Grip safety from Wilson. Much higher quality. I had another issue with a Wilson thumb safety that was cast. The pin was oversize and out of round. Lessons learned. From now on I will be using machined parts rather than cast. I feel Wilson's should be leaning on the company they contract to do their injection moulding about the quality issues.
Excellent Product(20/07/2012)
I bought this to install in a Caspian Frame Build. Buy the fitting jig and the installation/fitting is a snap. Great upgrade from stock.
Major fitting may be needed (13/03/2015)
FFL/SOT at GMF we run a small business so value matters, but not at the cost of quality. Most of the 1911s customized are Colt s70. These beaver tail safety's are Absolutely NOT as good as the bullet proof steel parts, but if your on a budget and need a good cast part these are trustworthy. After modifying frame with fixture some require lots of fit and polish. Others drop right in.
Not exactly drop in, and the finish is far from blue it's closer to cheap parkerizing. It's a dull black finish and I would recommend a gunsmith to install but with patience and some utube vid watching you might get it done without needing to buy another one. Good luck.
wilson problems(23/04/2015)
The 298b grip safety I received was not even close to a
premium product. It had more than one dimensional
problems. Wilson did not offer any help except to contact
where I bought it and how good the more expensive grip
safety was.
When I contacted Brownells, They honored there return
policy just like they advertise.
Brownells still has the service that a lot of companies have
lost.
Thanks, George Butler
Easy Peasy!(02/03/2017)
I purchased this grip safety to replace the original grip safety on my Rock Island Armory 1911 G.I. model 45 ACP. I watched a pro perform this operation on YouTube and followed exactly what he did. This truly is a drop in safety, and was extremely easy to put in with no modifications, other than a commander style drop in hammer, to the pistol what so ever. It was that simple, and now I don't get the old hammer bite, complete with bloody skin, when I shoot the pistol. I am extremely pleased that I found this through Brownell's and I will now buy all my gun parts through this fine company.
