A little disappointed - Could be better(20/11/2009)
Purchased the kit three years ago, along with several patches for 38 and 45 caliber. The patches came with two of the holes off-center, and the diameter needs to be a little larger, by about 1/8 of an inch to clean the forcing cone of a 45 (S&W 625). The screw broke twice and was replaced free of charge.Works great, but needs redesign with stronger screw. Maybe supply a sheet of brass mesh and have customers cut the patches to fit. Good product, needs updating.
Best Lead Remover Ever(22/04/2010)
This is the best and easiest lead remover I have ever used; and I've used these for many, many years. I find the patches to be reusable many times again and used right very durable.
Don't change a thing...
Easy lead remover(17/08/2010)
These are great using the rubber plug it pulls lead right out with one or two passes. I do agree that the screens are a little bit too small for a 45 forcing cone.

If you have never used the Lewis Lead Remover system, You have missed out. Does what it is supposed to do, get the Lead out the first time. NO mess or fuss. Just works.......
Lewis Lead Remover(30/05/2012)
I have been using these for years on handguns shot with cast bullets. I know of know other practical way to readily remove lead from the barrel and clean up the forcing cone. Unique product.
delivered as described(03/10/2009)
This products does exactly what it promised to do, and it comes with 10 patches, not just 1 to get started, instructions are very clear and exact. I use it to clean my Tauras Judge.
I would buy this product again and again(14/10/2009)
Very good quality, best lead remover I have ever used..If you have heavy leading due to lots of cowboy ammo this is definately the tool to get it out of your barrel!
Most Excellent Product(18/10/2009)
I use this for my .45 and .38 and it does exactly what it is designed to do. If you shoot lead this is a must have item. You can purchase one and then get the caliber kits for any other caliber that you need. No need to buy several units. Very easy to use and the instructions are simple to follow.
I've had one for 30 +years(08/01/2010)
Sorry guys, I didn't buy it from Brownells when I bought it it was called the Lewis Lead Remover and I think the guy was making them in his garage and selling them mail order out of his house still have the original instruction sheet.
In any event, it works great I have the attachments for .38 and 44/45.
Both the forcing cone cleaner and the adjustable pull thru bore cleaner work well removing lead fouling.
Solvents or penetrating oils like Kroil work well but sometimes you need just a little more to clear out the fouling, the brass screen wire patches will not damage the bore.
If you shoot cast or swaged lead projectiles, you need this tool.
Shoot Swaged or Cast Lead??(29/05/2011)
I've had one of the old Lewis Lead Removers for 30 years in .45 cal. If you shoot Cast Lead or Swagged Lead bullets at higher velocities, this tool is a life (barrel & forcing cone) saver. Cleaning solvents just don't usually get all the lead out, but, this little tool will. The forcing code adapter does a great job. Oh yeah, the brass patches will NOT harm your bore. I have shot my Blackhawk .45 LC until you can barely see the lands and grooves with some swagged soft lead bullets and this tool cleaned it right up when nothing else would, including a stiff stainless steel bore brush.
Great cleaning tool to have(24/06/2012)
You'd think that a bronze brush would do a pretty good job of removing everything, after soaking the bore with Kroil for a few minutes, but the brushes don't work as well as the Lewis Lead Remover. I do think the price is too high for what looks like maybe $7 worth of pieces from a hardware store.
As clean as a never-fired barrel(06/08/2017)
Polymer coated bullets left a residue in the bore of my 1911. I wore out a new brass brush trying to get the barrel clean, but residue remained. I used the Lewis tool and within 3 passes it left the bore as clean and pristine as a never-fired barrel. I cleaned several other 45s and the bores are all flawlessly clean. This tool will give you great results and save you many hours of cleaning.
Removing Lead(08/02/2010)
I used the Lewis Lead Remover to remove a very severe case of lead fouling from the forcing cone in my S&W Model 629. My adult children shot 100 rounds of .44 Special loaded with cast bullets through the pistol in about an hour. To say the forcing cone was badly leaded would be an understatement. The tool was easy to use, even for a novice pistol shooter like me, and did a great job of removing the leading. The directions indicate that the tool may be used either with the cylinder remaing in the pistol, or with the cylinder removed. When cleaning the forcing cone, I would go ahead and remove the cylinger, as it makes handling the pistol easier.
Excellent unique tool cleans quickly(12/10/2010)
I started shooting SASS with Vaquero 44's and between contests and practice move a lot of lead through the barrels. The Lewis Lead Remover tool has not only speeded my cleaning time but now has given me the ultimate forcing cone cleaning tool. Barrel, forcing cone, and cylinders come spotless clean even when double wire brushes can't budge the lead. Easy to use and highly effective ! I would recommend it highly.
Great product(22/11/2012)
Took heavy lead deposits out of forcing cone on M29 in no time; hated cleaning lead before. Now it's easy; next is one pull through cylinder and barrel; all gone!!!
This tool is a Miracle(27/12/2012)
Wow! This thing works great. Finally can get the lead out.I have two 44-40 revolvers and this tool cleaned up the forcing cone, barrels and cylinder chambers. Clean as they were when they were brand new. Thanks Brownell's.
Been Around Forever Because it Works(04/09/2013)
This tool is very simple and straightforward to use. Read and follow the directions, and it will work just as stated. I had leading in a vintage 1973 S&W model 29-2 and I didn't want to risk damaging anything. I carefully made four passes with the same screen and the barrel was as clean as a whistle. I will caution you: it takes some muscle to get it started through the barrel the first time. Each subsequent pass gets a little easier. Excellent tool, and excellent value.
Cleans great easy follow instructions(03/08/2018)
this is a great product. Beats using the Scotch pad.
Follow the instructions to form the pad and it will be easier to pull thru the bore!
Buy one for each caliber(13/10/2009)
I use this on my wifes cowboy pistols and rifles. Does a great job and for less effort. I usually only use it after 2-3 matches and it gits all the lead deposits out. I also use it on my P89.
It did take me a few uses to learn to git the adjustments right. but now I can do both pistols in just a few minutes.
The final solution(06/11/2009)
My 9mm gets really coated with lead if I use lead only bullets. I tried several different solutions and tons of brush scrubbing to no avail. Finally I bought the Lewis Lead Remover to try. Worked like a charm and my barrel gleams again. This is the final solution when all else fails.
Best lead remover ever!!(16/05/2010)
I bought this when it was still the Lewis Lead Reamer. At the time I was a police officer and we shot swaged lead ammo for practice. It would take an hour of scrubbing to get just barely clean enough to get back on the street. After I started using the lead reamer I was through with a seriously clean service revolver in about 30 minutes. That was 20+ years ago, and I still use it after every shoot where lead bullets were used. Nothing else beats it.
I thought it was clean(02/03/2011)
I had always been careful to completely clean my 44mag after a day at the range and it did always look clean. Then I bought a lead remover kit. The first time was a bear! Thought I was going to pull my shoulder out of the socket, but you should have seen the lead. Now I know the riflings are completely clean. This is well worth the money.
too much hype(28/03/2011)
we only shoot lead at our range and both my 9mm & 357 get pretty bad. it was becoming a unbearable chore after every shoot and i needed something better. i heard a lot about this product on the internet but buying one in aussie is hard to find. finnaly got one [...] set about to give my toys a thorough cleaning and found this product to be the biggest disapointment. it gave the forcing cone a good clean but i can scrub the barrels with a bit of elbow grease better than this thing. looks like i will stick with my brushes. dont waste your money buy more brushes
Works as advertised(08/11/2011)
I had one of these years ago and used it until it fell apart and had been looking for a replacement. Looking for something else I was glad to see that Brownells stock it and the replacement screens. The Lewis lead remover sure beats a brush on a cleaning rod for saving time and getting the rifling clean.
Works As Advertised(05/04/2012)
As a police officer and sheriff's deputy, I shot PPC match and practice ammo exclusively with lead bullets (both swaged and home casts) for over 20 years in my service and PPC custom revolvers. I initially found that I could spend a week and wear out 3 to 4 bore brushes trying to remove the lead from the cylinder throats, forcing cone, and barrels of the revolvers. I then purchased this kit, which made very short work of the task. I found that a good solvent soaked patch cleaning to remove the carbon fouling, followed by a good degreaser works best prior to using the kit. Remaining solvents or oils only lubricate the patches, reducing their effectiveness. Also patches can be brushed with a stainless steal brush to remove the lead and then re-used several times. The only problem I encountered was with my custom PPC revolver, as it had different angled forcing cone. However, slipping a piece of rubber tubing over the forcing cone tool cleaned the area missed by the standard angled part. Follow the cleaning with a good bore paste polishing leaves a spectacularly clean handgun. I'm retired now and no longer shoot PPC. I now shoot bullseye pistol, so I got one in 45 ACP for my Goldcup. Lewis Lead Remover...Don't shoot lead without it.
WORKS!(03/07/2012)
Have been using these for years: 38, 357, 45ACP, 44 Mag. Works in all to remove lead from forcing cone and chambers EASILY!
Doesn't work for me.(10/10/2012)
I've tried this in a S&W 686P and Ruger SP101. I find it just bordering on useless. I keep trying, but always end up scrubbing with chor boy for a half hour anyway.
buy some extra screens...(31/10/2012)
I bought this kit for my .38 that was badly leaded. The first six screens didn't make it all the way out of the barrel, they tore. after ten screens, the barrel still had a lot of lead.. in total, it took 13 screens, plus a lot of scrubbing with a brass brush to get rid of the lead.
It did finally work - the brass brush alone did nothing, using both, I finally have a clean gun..
I'm kind of afraid to shoot it anymore, the lead was such a pain to get out..
Simply the best(14/03/2016)
If you shoot lead, from your pistol or revolver, you need this product. I thought my GP100 was clean as a whistle when I used the Lewis Lead Remover for the first time. I was actually embarrassed at the lead and crud that came out! Simple concept, high quality and easily replaceable parts. I bought the 38/357 kit to try out. Will now be buying the additional parts for 41, 44 and 45. Try it. You will be amazed!
Can't do without(02/04/2016)
I ordered two, one to replace an old kit and the other for my Son and shooting buddy, who's gotten a wheel gun, as well.
I shoot custom lead wad cutter loads out of my Python in the Bullseye discipline and have to run the Lewis through the chambers and bore plus redressing the forcing cone. All this to keep the "Snake" in proper accuracy.
Very gentle on the surfaces with not a worry of damaging the finish.
