The Universal Carbide Case Trimmer is a heavy-duty, cast-iron constructed case trimming tool designed for serious reloaders who demand precise case lengths for pinpoint accuracy and smooth, reliable functioning cartridges. The secret behind this hard-working case trimmer is simple-it uses a Carbide Cutter Head that holds a diamond-sharp edge to maintain balanced dimensions and a longer-than-average service life, making it ideal for volume reloaders. This replaceable cutter head accepts all Lyman pilots. This unit packs a high speed drive and a safety guard for added protection. Lyman's patented Universal Chuckhead can handle any case cutting job from .17 caliber to .458 caliber with no collets or shell holders required. It also comes with nine of the most popular caliber pilots: 22, 24, 27, 28/7mm, 30, 9mm, 35 (38/357), 44 and 45A.

Long Life(09/02/2011)
Although I have since moved on to more specialised trimmers I used one of thes (Same cutter) for nearly 10 years without fault timming around 25,000 cases...I still cant bring myself to get rid of it...It is built like they should be. I cut the handle of mine and braised a hex head and did the winding with a small cordless drill... The added ability to convert it at a later date to the motorised version is an added bonus.
does the job(10/02/2011)
Used this product briefly, it helped me produce accurate ammo but was not satisfied with the squareness of the mouth trim. Cutting shaft had noticeable wobble when turned, but the wobble minimized when trimming an actual case
Great!...at first(15/07/2012)
I had a real love affair with this trimmer for the first 6 months. Then I decided to really use it, and thats when my disappointment set in. After 2000 rounds of .223 trimmed the feet that hold the case would no longer clamp down on a .223 case. Ive thought about replacing these parts, but have decided to keep it around for just my larger calibers and go with something more robust for larger lots needing processed.
So far, so good(01/08/2013)
I reload .204 Ruger, so needed the .20cal pilot. Easy to adjust trim length. Screws down onto bench. Hand / wrist gets tired after trimming many cases, but the sharp cutter does make quick work of each case. Can be a pleasure when you get a rhythm going. Very heavy / sturdy base. For those who have trouble / complaints with squaring cases, I noticed it pays to tighten the chuck only when the pilot is deep inside the case neck. Specs state the plastic contstructed chuck with ball bearing is self-centering, but if you just throw the case in and lock the chuck the case may not be square / centered at all -- you need that pilot in there to keep it all lined up before you begin cranking the handle, I reckon. I too, am worried about the 'life' of the spring loaded plastic chuck, getting loose over time.
Great Upgrade(06/01/2015)
Yes, this part is a little on the high dollar side for it's size and design. However, I got the power adapter upgrade and the ole steel cutter was chewing up case mouths so bad it was hard to pull the pilot out at times. This carbide cutter takes care of that. It will be the last cutter head you will need to buy. Like I said, the only con is the price.
