Nice stock, good fit.(06/04/2011)
The fit and finish of the shortshot stock and forend is very good. It's a little tough to get the recoil pad to line up correctly once you remove it to install the stock. Mine has a ridge top and bottom now but it's not a big deal. The pad softened the perceived recoil quite a bit. Soft, but not as squishy-soft as the others. The forend is a dream come true. The grippiness of the rubber is very comfortable on both the forend and grip portion of the stock. I gave this set four stars only because I wish it came in a 13" LOP. The 12" LOP is just short enough to where you occasionally get punched by your thumb if you don't lay it forward toward the safety.
Good product for smaller shooters(02/06/2010)
Purchased a set for one of our smaller officers. Good product, make sure to remove metal tab that sits in front of the factory wood buttstock prior to installing the buttstock assembly. New forend is the shorter style that will fit in a locking gun rack.
Follow the directions... it really works(15/11/2010)
I was frustrated trying to locate the stock screws. Word of advice they are not in the same place as Remington factory (I have an extra hole in my recoil pad that proves this). The Hogue screws are located close to the tips of the recoil pad top and bottom. Use oil on your thin shaft phillips screwdriver to slide through the pre-cut slits in the pad. I resisted the directions but following them the pad came off and install was done in about 5 minutes (stock bolt is 7/16 socket). Indexing seems quick with the 12" LOP version; grip is firm due to the Hogue treatment on the stock and forearm.
it's short.. really short(27/04/2011)
the forend is awesome, some serious grip on it. The stock is well built and nice feel. iwanted a shorter LOP, but it was too short for me. lol it's better suited for people with smaller frames. It'd be perfect for a young shooter.
Short L.O.P. thus(04/11/2012)
Used to build custom 870 for my wife. The length of pull is perfect for your average gal. Will work well with body armor if you are a guy too. The finish and legendary Hogue grip are excellent. Don't forget to remove the factory spacer fron the reciever after removing the factory stock. Wish there was an 1100 set, and Benelli SBE1!
Perfect for my 12 year old(07/12/2014)
My 12 year old son wanted to move up to a 12 gauge, but most were just too long and awkward for him to shoot accurately / confidently (He was 4'-9" tall). I came across this stock set, and paired it with an 870 express magnum receiver and 26" barrel. It is absolutely perfect for him. The gun seems to fit him like a glove, and he's knocking down more birds than me these days.
We went to shoot some skeet at my gun club today, and I told him that I wanted to shoot his gun for a round. I shot 25 clays with 26 shells - I'm not sure what it is about the small / short / light platform, but I could never shoot that well with my own guns.
Bottom line - I'm sure it's got other great uses, but if you're looking for a 12 gauge "youth model", don't waste your time - buy this stock set for a good old 870 for that youngster.
I would buy this product again and again(24/11/2009)
great feel but the foregrip nut is a pickle to get on.
Winchester Defender 1300(22/03/2013)
I bought this for my Winchester Defender 1300.
The stock fit okay but the forearm did not fit properly. I had to make a spacer so that the forearm nut would tighten up and had to epoxy plastic supports at the rear of the forearm to stop it from twisting under use, got that idea from the net.
Also, beware, if your slide tube is 4-3/4 " and not 6-1/4" in length you will have to buy a special adapter nut which you have to pay for. It should be included in the package.
I would not recommend this item.
Great upgrade to my Shotgun(11/08/2014)
The length of pull is perfect when using body armor. Great rubber texture to keep a firm grip on it. Forend was a little hard to fit.
Great Upgrade(07/11/2009)
This well priced stock has a much thinner wrist and slightly steeper grip angle than the factory Mossberg wood stock. Points much better for me.
It also has a nice no slip texture.
This is my favorite if you are looking for a standard type stock.
Also like that if you buy the Hogue "Tamer" P grip and forend you can get just the buttstock so you can have both types in matching Overmolded rubber.
Perfect Fit(28/04/2011)
I've never been disappointed by Hogue's quality and attention to detail. This is a very high quality replacement for a damaged or factory stock. I installed mine on a Mossberg 500A, unlike many if not most aftermarket parts, there was no fitting required. Installation is a snap and can be done in 10 minutes or less. What you miss out on from the picture and description is the forend is textured to provide a good solid grip.
good price great quality(16/08/2014)
Excellent stock and forend. My uncle gave me a mossberg 500 with wooden forend and stock so I was looking to increase grip and decrease weight. It fits great just remember if you have the 6 3/4 inch action tube you need the longer forend nut.
Hogue stock and forend set(03/12/2010)
I am firearms instructor and armorer for a 160-officer police department. I purchased this set for my personal 870 that I use for home defense. It installed in minutes, and works perfectly. The grip and feel of the stock if outstanding. It was very simple to install and the buttpad is extremely soft that will help with high-recoil slugs. A great purchase!
Good Stock!(20/11/2012)
I bought this stock assuming that it would be as good of quality as Hogue's other products, and I was right. It's a great stock for the money, and istallation was quite easy. I will note that if you do not have a forend wrench, it could be a problem to remove the factory forend. I ended up just taking a set of needle nose pliers, holding them with vise grips, and twisting the nut off. It actually worked surprisingly well, but in the future I might just buy the wrench, they're not too costly. The buttstock went on pretty easily, and seems to be pretty solid. The only concern I have is that the LOP might be a hair long if I'm wearing a coat. They sell a 12" version that might be better if you are on the smaller side.
Great 870 upgrade(22/11/2013)
Love this set, it feels great while shooting, hogue makes a quality product!!!
Hogue Stock/Forend Set (Rem. 870 12 ga.)(07/12/2015)
First, Brownell's service is top shelf. I knew exactly where my items were and when they would be delivered. All items arrived on time. Second, the Hogue product is a great upgrade to my Rem 870 clone (NEF Pardner Pump). Installation was simple. The fit and finish are solid. The buttpad is thick and soaks up recoil. The texture on the pistol grip and forend provide good non-slip contact. I gave the set 4-stars because the stock is hollow. I don't mind but some people won't like that.
