Apex Tactical’s Fully Machined Sear for the Smith & Wesson M&P series has a different geometry from the factory part that dramatically reduces trigger pull weight to less than 5 lbs., while it also shortens overtravel and improves reset speed. The end result is much better trigger feel overall. APEX 45 Sear(04/11/2011)
The Apex sear for the M&P 45 is perfect. After install and without any spring or other part modification changes, the trigger breaks at a consistent 4.5 lbs. Of course this is on an already well broken in .45. CC
Apex 45 sear(19/01/2012)
Drop in part that does just what it says. It reduces the trigger pull and makes for a much better feeling trigger. I put one in my M&P 40C, and my 45F, now I'm putting one in my dads 45F and my brothers carry 40.
Excellent Product(12/10/2012)
Works just as advertised. I was going to trade in my M&P 45 on something else until I installed this sear.
Big Improvement to Trigger(23/12/2013)
Took my new M&P 45 (~ 50 rnds shot) to the LGS and had this put in. It was done in less than 5 min, and the trigger pulls @ 5# on the button! My only complaint is why M&P doesn't fix this in the first place saving us all $50...
Amazing Difference(26/03/2015)
Replacing the stock sear with this made the trigger what it should be, nice and crisp. Much better than original. Add the firing pin block kit and make it even better. The hard sear alone gets you 75% there though.
Outstanding upgrade!(26/07/2017)
This upgrade made for a much lighter, more manageable trigger. Had my regular gunsmith install it on my unfired, new Shield .45. I could not be happier. I was thinking of adding a new trigger but it really isn't necessary.
Makes all the differance (29/08/2017)
This is the second Apex sear I have installed in a M&P 45 . This little part makes ALL the difference in the world !!! It makes a very good pistol with a sub par trigger into what a M&P should be.
The hardest part was getting the roll pins out .Also be careful with the factory sear there is a tiny spring under it. Wouldn't have a M&P without putting the Apex hard sear in!!
Worth it(31/08/2017)
Reduced the pull on my 2.0 9mm from 5.5lbs to 4.25lbs. with no other modifications to the gun. Slight decreas in pre travel and reset, but I doubt you would notice it when shooting.
Significant positive difference(04/12/2017)
First, shipping was quick. Maybe not "Amazon quick" but close. The installation was pretty easy although it never hurts to watch a good YouTube video. Today I got to test the upgrade and I was surprised by the smoothness of the trigger and the reduced pull weight. It felt a bit like the first time I drove a Corvette; it tried to get away from me. It takes a few rounds to get used to but then the groups will tighten up significantly. This should also help those who are fighting the "low and left" issue with their Shields. The is a great compromise for those who want a better trigger but would rather not install that funny red lever in their gun and spend three times the money for the full kit.
Just WOW(16/05/2018)
All I can say is wow. I installed the sear in my mp Shield 9 and the trigger pull is so light it almost frightened me when I fired it for the first time. It dose what it says. I don't have a gauge, but it is very apparent it's lighter.
Big Difference(05/09/2018)
Bought a MP Shield 9 when they were released in early 2012. Always felt the trigger pull was on the heavy side after "hitting the wall". After recently talking to a S&W trained gunsmith and trying his apex installed triggers, I decided to purchase an Apex sear. I prefer to keep my guns as near to OEM as possible thus did not want to replace springs etc.
What a difference! Just replacing the sear was enough. Trigger is more pleasant to operate. Just right for a self defense carry gun.
TIP: if you feel comfortable in replacing yourself - watch Apex's video a few times first. If not - a gunsmith trained on S&W firearms will replace in hardly any time at all.
Tremendous trigger improvement(05/07/2011)
Easy to install and greatly reduced trigger pull (now about 3lb). I also polished the trigger bar and installed the Apex reduced power return spring. The trigger is now very smooth with a very tactile reset.
Now that's fast!(27/01/2012)
I mostly use my M&P 9mm for target shooting. This new sear has not only increased the speed but has also allowed me to be more accurate in my shooting. I did polish the sear before installing it.
An essential upgrade(02/09/2012)
I have put Apex sears in every M&P I've owned, my current 9mm has 20,000 rounds on the sear with no issues. The improvement to the trigger is immediate, consistent and lasts and installation is a snap. You really couldn't ask for more.
Did I just get a new gun?(15/11/2012)
HOLY!! I bought this and the spring kit and installation was a zip. I'm no gunsmith but this is just a drop in job as long as you have roll pin punches. The new sear and sear spring combined brought my new M&P pull down from 6.5lbs to 4.5lbs and only took about 15 minutes to do. Trigger reset spring dropped the pull another pound to a feather light 3.5. There's still some mush in it but that should clear up in time.
The sear is machines steel, not MIM. The cam surface isn't polished so I touched it up a bit using a emery board but did not touch the surface which contacts the striker. The point of contact is further back than the stock sear (see pic) and a much lower angle. The break point is further back than stock which leaves less overtravel but don't be fooled into thinking this is a 1911 trigger. It's significantly better but the surfaces should have been polished first!
Doesn't work/fit!(19/10/2013)
I bought this part to use in my M&P 9mm & the sear is noticeably TOO short for the trigger bar to engage! No clue if this is for an older built model or a compact or what, but it WOULD NOT WORK! The sear that came with the Apex kit worked fine, go figure.
Marked improvement in trigger feel(10/08/2015)
I have both an M&P 45 Compact and a 9mm Shield, and purchased one of these sears for each. Both installed with only a pin punch, but the Shield was a little trickier. For the Shield, I had to remove both the sear housing and the locking block from the frame, and I did notice some plastic shavings when removing and reinstalling the sear housing (clearly not a fault of the product, but something to look out for during installation). But the results after installing them were impressive: in each case, the trigger breaks a little later in its travel, the reset is shorter, the overtravel is shorter, and the trigger pull is a little lighter. Since you won't be modifying any safety mechanisms, installation is relatively safe, and the results are well worth it. There will still be some initial grit from the trigger bar acting on the striker block plunger, but aside from that the trigger break is much nicer. If I ever purchase another M&P, I'm putting this sear in it.
