Another Great One from Magpul!(23/12/2014)
Works Great! No more possibility or torqueing on the receiver. Super low profile and doesn't take up much space in my tool box. I've already used this several times while teaching AR Armorer class. Had several student run right to the ProShop and get their own right after class.
Best Tool For The AR-15 Builder.(01/01/2015)
Best tool for the job I have used to torque a barrel to receiver, also works on the flash hinder.
If you are building a AR-15 you have to get one.
Another benefit of using this is unlike the clam shell receiver tools this one dose not leave marks on the receiver.
Very well built tool.
It's Magpul, It works..
Mine was out of Spec(30/01/2015)
The BEV Block that I received would only engage (fit) the barrel extension on one of my barrels. It would not fit into the lugs on any other barrels (including a DD, so barrels not the issue). Waiting for the replacement to arrive. I will change this review if the replacement works.
Possibly the best AR upper block(02/02/2015)
I recently broke the lugs off an expensive receiver while using a block that the receiver pins onto the top of, the barrel nut was tightened in excess of 150 ft/lb by the manufacturer of the upper. Regardless, a new tool was in order. I purchased both the Magpul BEV block and a Geissele Reaction Rod at the same time. Between the two I prefer the Magpul BEV block because the receiver pins in place so it can't slide off, and the polymer seems to hold better in the vise so the block does not rotate lengthwise when torque is applied. With a bolt carrier inserted in the rear of the upper the assembly is solid, even without a carrier inserted it is fine for most applications. The only downside I can see is that it can not work on .22 or pistol caliber AR uppers because there are no lugs in the barrel extensions to interface with, but that is not the fault of the tool and won't effect most users.
Best Tool for the AR Platform, Ever!(11/02/2015)
Looking at this initially, I was very skeptical-- how could any tool THAT closely align with the barrel extension, to take any stress off of that barrel extension pin? It would have to be accurate within 1/10,000 of an inch or so and likely a few miliradians off of absolute milspec. "Tall order" I thought. Well MagPul did it. There is zero play in the engagement lugs and the entire set up is rock-solid. Easy to setup and very compact. Even though there is really no way to break this, I'm compelled to buy another, just to have a spare. Precisely fit every barrel / upper combination I had. I wish MagPul would get into making automobiles.
Fitting required(20/02/2015)
Worked only with 1 of 3 my uppers. Need to be fitted manually (with file). I could send it back to Magpul but i needed it urgently so fitted myself.
Overall: good concept bad execution.
Best AR tool I've ever purchased(06/04/2015)
I saw this at the Shot Show and ordered one immediately. So far, I've had about 15 different uppers on it, all but one fit perfectly. One was very snug; upon examination - that barrel extension wasn't perfectly lined up in the receiver. Unlike the clam-shell type upper receiver blocks, you donât have to remove the ejection port cover to use this.
Now that I own one, I use it more than I imagined; everything from simply changing muzzle devices to mounting and truing scope rings.
Another winner from Magpul(29/08/2015)
I was initially skeptical of the design of the BEV Block and I had already sold myself on the Reaction Rod. After watching every review I could find I decided to give the BEV a try, and I'm glad I did. It holds the barrel extension tightly, and doesn't mar the upper at all. After a couple uses mine is showing vise clamp marks, but I tend to over tighten whatever I put in a vise. Regardless, I could continue to over tighten the BEV and IMO it still could handle hundreds of more uses before requiring replacement. It's well worth the asking price.
Awesome for installing barrels(19/10/2015)
I have used the BEV block to install a dozen barrels so far and it's so simple to use that I wish it'd been around years ago. Sturdy and holds the barrel in place while protecting the upper receiver. No more marks on receivers due to clamping it with a clamshell. I highly recommend it to anyone that needs to install a new barrel.
Outstanding tool for AR (24/11/2015)
Excellent tool for barrel install or flash hider work. Fits my SW 5R barrel like a glove. Heavy, well made item. No instruction in my box but was able to figure out things pretty well. Receiver is supported with a pin thru the front takedown hole and in the rear by the bolt carrier. Leaves no marks on outside of receiver.
Could be used for scope fitting as well.
Worked perfectly(04/02/2016)
Worked perfectly for my first AR build. Barrel from Faxon Firearms, forged upper from Rainier Arms. The slim width, the same as a magazine, fits in my not so enormous bench vice. A clam-shell style vice block would be quite a bit wider and might not have fit. No negatives with the function of this product in my experience. Take the bolt out of the bolt carrier and slide the carrier onto the back of the BEV block when tightening or removing barrel nuts or muzzle devices.
First Time user(02/09/2016)
Honestly, bought the BEV Block because of the price and multi-use of the tool. If you have any doubts as to its ability to stand up to the torque of tightening the barrel put them aside. It worked great when applying full torque to the barrel nut. Turning it upside down in the vise allows it to securely hold the lower in the mag well. The only con I could mention is that even with the BCG inserted, and the pin in the takedown hole, it does allow the assembly to move around a bit, so if you're used to the old clamshell, realize that it won't be held solidly and un-moving. It does not pose a problem. Great tool.
Works Perfectly (08/12/2016)
The first one I ordered didn't fit my barrel extension for my build. I contacted Magpul, they responded quickly and said that they were aware of the issue. I got a new one in the mail from Magpul quicker than I could find the time to ship my first one back to them. Second one worked flawlessly for my first build and all of my subsequent builds. I wish they made one for big bore ARs, because I'd buy one of those too. A must have for anyone with the aptitude to build or maintain their own ARs.
Replacement works great(29/12/2016)
This one workes perfect! Workes on all the rifles that the first one would not. It is my go to vise block now.
Very Satisfied - Magpul BEV Block(27/05/2017)
The Magpul BEV block along with the Magpul AR wrench made quick work of removing and installing flash hiders on my Rock River Arms upper. No damage to the firearm and the tools are well made.
Solid AR Vise Block(27/08/2018)
Love the mag well block, and if you need more stability for barrel or handguard work flip this baby over. Durable & solid tool - Will be used regularly.
