AWESOME TOOL!!(23/12/2014)
Great tool! I've already used it several times while teaching AR Armorer classes. Locks into barrel and castle nuts well and hasn't slipped at all. Plus, now I have a sick bottle opener too!
Barrel Nut Pegs DO NOT FIT(01/04/2015)
Stay clear of this one.
OK, it's a Magpul, right? Because it's a Magpul product you'd would think that it wouldn't be released for sale without proper manufacturing Quality Controls (QC) to guarantee that Magpul protects their reputation for quality products that work; but you'd be wrong. This $75 wrench has 20 hole barrel nut pegs that are out of spec ... that'll drive you NUTS at this price point.
The wrench that I received had barrel nut pegs for a standard 20 hole AR15 barrel that were out of alignment by several hundredths. So, 3 pegs would fit but the 4 remaining pegs would just slightly NOT fit. Unbelievable. Magpul failed on this one.
Bought a $25 PRI 20 hole barrel nut wrench from local retailer to save my plan to build my AR during my week off vacation. Brownells has been kind enough to accept the return of this Magpul so, hopefully, my $75 isn't lost ... but my belief in Magpul is certainly lost.
Great tool(08/04/2015)
I use this product in production assembly operations and it works great.
Great Wrench!(12/05/2015)
Not sure what went wrong with the one star users wrench because mine is perfectly in spec in every way.
I build, sell and repair AR rifles as part of my income so I take these things pretty seriously . It fits the barrel nut tight, and perfect no mar tightening of the castle nut on the other end.
Bottom line this is a great tool and I recommend it to everyone.
Pricey, but it's the best.(29/08/2015)
What a great wrench. The pictures don't show just how solid this tool is, or how good it feels in hand. When Magpul announced it, I remember reading all the comments from the skeptics, too expensive, blah blah blah. All the haters can keep their $20 Chinese AR wrenchs, none of them are built like the Magpul. Even the other Made in the USA wrenchs are nearly in-line pricewise, but still don't offer the versatility of the Magpul. Another win from Magpul IMO.
Mid grade (09/12/2015)
Ok, I am Magpul's number one fan. This tool works with most barrel nuts but will not work with aero precisions BAR or spikes tactical BAR barrel or many more nuts due to the number of pins. A 3 pin wrench is what I needed. Also The pins are not long enough and if you are not careful and using both hands it will slip off with easy and jack up any aluminum barrel nut ( JP enterprise nut I wrecked) I realize that it's not Magpul's fault it's just not the AR tool for all! Just make sure your barrel nuts have holes all around rather then the groups of 3 holes like Aero, Seekins ,Rainier,Spikes and many more.
Best AR-15 wrench out there(10/12/2015)
This is the best wrench for the AR-15/M-16/M-4 family of rifles that I have ever used, and I've used most of them. My example fits barrel nuts and castle nuts tighter than any other tool. The bottle opener feature works great, too.
5 stars as long as your work is milspec(19/07/2017)
It's super duty and high quality. It does not work to tighten the nut for a Kak Blade buffer tube, as it is sized for milspec tubes. I still love the tool, but had to order a cheaper stamped tool to tighten my Kak Blade nut.
Barrel nut pins are short(17/11/2017)
This wrench is expensive and I'm not convinced it's worth it. For one, the barrel nut tool pins are very short and do not work on LaRue handguards (I've heard others too). The finish isn't that durable and started to get shiny after two builds. It's alright.
Works great on castle nuts(02/01/2018)
Finally a wrench that fits castle nuts without slipping off during tightening and chewing the heck out of them.I finally got tired of this happening and payed up the bucks so I could be done with it. I went back and used this to re-tighten the castle nuts on the various AR s I own.Very very nice . 4 stars because I haven't used the other features yet so I can't speak as to how well they work .if they do work as nice then it's a five star.plus just like everything else when it comes to GUN related items exceedingly expensive!
Big, Heavy, Works as described(27/08/2018)
No issues with the tool - fit, finish, or function. 100% as expected. If you have existing tools this may help consolidate your box, if you need a tool this is a good choice.
