Awful fit(31/03/2014)
Bought this sight for my Springfield Armory Mil-Spec on the recommendation of one of Brownells gunsmiths. Told him I wanted something where I could just remove the old sight and slide in the new one with no hassle. Didn't work that way. the sight needed extensive fitting which took over an hour, and once fitted, the sight rides high above the slide and is nothing like a Novak Low Mount. There was enough of a gap (I'm guessing about a 32nd of an inch) between the sight and the slide. Looked awful and shot high. removed it and went back to the factory sight.
Very poorly designed (16/10/2014)
The sight is of sturdy construction. And I can handle the minor fitting required but there is just no way to install this sight without it looking ridiculous. It sits very high above the slide. So high you can see daylight between the sight and slide.
Worked Fine On My Springfield Mil-Spec(16/03/2015)
I installed this sight on my Springfield Armory 1911 A1 Mil-Spec, with no problems. The only difficult part was getting the original GI sight out, but after reading a few posts online, I clamped the slide in my bench vise with a block of wood on either side, and drove it out with a brass punch and hammer. The new Novak sight went in easily in under 10 minutes, the key being that I fitted it by removing stock only from the BOTTOM of the sight's dovetail, not the sides, measuring it as I went with a dial caliper, so that it would sit as low as possible on the slide. If you remove material from the sides of the dovetail, then it will sit higher than the GI sight, and there will be an ugly gap between the sight and the top of the slide.
