I recently put my rifle in a chassis that uses Accuracy International magazines. I was happy to see a single round loading block on the market that mimicked the fit of an Accuracy International magazine. I was not so happy to find out that the Bob Sled did not fit after I received it. It seemed the block could not quite go deep enough into the magazine well for the magazine catch to snap over the metal tab on the block. So, I decided to make it fit. I sanded on the top of the block hoping it would allow the block to seat deeper and engage the magazine catch. I don't think I made much progress doing that. I finally took a flat file and incrementally filed the tab on the sled, while test fitting multiple times. After a few attempts, I was able to make the sled lock into the chassis. After several loadings with dummy rounds, I would say it works well. However, there is absolutely no excuse for the sled not fitting in the first place. The dimensions of an Accuracy International magazine should have not been difficult to duplicate. You have to wonder if the makers ever actually test their products for fit and function.
However, it does work, even though I had to make it fit. I would say if you want a single loading block for your chassis that uses Accuracy International magazines, this will (probably) work. But, be prepared for the possibility that you might have to do some modification.
Fits Great in Stock for AICS Mags(04/04/2016)
The sled installed without a problem. I popped it in, It locks in place, and does not interfere when chambering a round. No rattle, no slop. It fits better then some AICS mags I have from various vendors.
This helps extend the life of my AICS mag followers and won't scratch up my shiny brass cases.
Great idea, Great for bench work. Happy it fits the stock with no issue what so ever.
Used in a M. P. G-7 Stock married to a Rem 700 SA 308.
I shoot long distance bench rest. Great alternative to changing my bolt action setup to something more expensive, etc.
Works great in the Ruger Precision Rifle(17/04/2016)
Fits and functions perfect in my 6.5 Creedmoor Ruger Precision Rifle.
Perfect fit for Ruger Precision Rifle (01/05/2016)
This was a perfect fit for my Ruger Precision Rifle RPR. Locked right in place with no rattle and allows bolt to function flawlessly. It is a great item to have when wanting to single load the rifle. Would recommend and buy again.
May require minor fitting(28/06/2016)
I have been using the OBS in the AR-15 for many years due to NRA/CMP High Power Service Rifle competitions. I ended up ordering the AI .308 SLED from Brownells because I recently acquired the ATAICS from Brownells, and wanted the SLED for when I used the rifle in F-Class matches.
Anyway, the only issue with the AI .308 SLED is that the magazine bump that engages the magazine release on any chassis system based on the AI pattern magazine may be tool long. If the AI .308 SLED is too tight when inserting into magazine well, simply file down the bump (aluminum) until it fits in your chassis. I recommend measuring the bump on a factory AI magazine (or some other AI pattern magazine that fits your specific chassis perfectly) and measuring the bump on the AI .308 SLED and file accordingly. I had to file down about .020" and the SLED fit perfectly in my ATAICS.
I hazard a guess that the magazine bump on the AI .308 SLED is oversized on purpose to account for variances between chassis systems based on the AI pattern magazines.
I own the AR version of Bob-Sled so I thought I would get the .308 bolt-action version for my Ruger Gunsite Scout. I did some research on the AI website and saw that the sled was compatible then ordered it from Brownells since they had the best price. However, upon receipt, I discovered that the sled would not fully lock when inserted into the mag well. As another reviewer noted, the magazine catch bump was too large and wouldn't allow the unit to lock into place. So, I did a small modification and filed the bump making sure to test the fit at increments. Sure enough, that mod solved the problem. Overall, the fit and finish are good and it cycles rounds in my GSR without issues. I'm knocking the rating down by one star since I shouldn't have had to modify the product to make it work.
Poor feeding(30/08/2018)
I have one of these .223 versions in an MDT chassis for F/TR shooting. Maybe it is the long-seated 80grn projectiles, but it never feeds a round from simply resting in the sled - the tip needs to be delicately angled forward, before dropping into the sled and closing the bolt. Seems to be an alignment issue, but that is not easily altered. I have one in .308 Win in a similar set-up in another MDT chassis, and that works perfectly. I'm going to try and modify the .223 version to work better. 2-stars as it is clearly nice work, but functionally only deserves 1-star.
