Great Springs(10/03/2014)
Design: Simple design, no inserts are needed. Worked perfect out of the box. I don't recall there being installation instructions in the small zip baggie these arrived in. If you cannot find this information on the Interwebs though, you probably shouldn't be messing around with firearms.
Construction: The CS coating on these springs is far more reliable and durable than the plain steel used in standard springs; CS gives these springs a higher tolerance to heat, and many more cycles before deformation of the spring occurs. Also, there are no bits of rubber or O-rings to get damaged, lost, or installed incorrectly. No: "do I need green or black?" questions with this set.
Function: These springs are top notch quality and function great. Over thousands of rounds I have had no F2F or extraction issues. High quality ammunition and proper maintenance aids in this as well.
Cost: On Brownells, a standard set of extractor/ejector springs (plain steel) will run you about $2.25 all the way to around $8 for brand name springs with inserts and O-Rings. For a few bucks over that, you get a system that is simplified, reliable, consistent, and well⦠superior. It was a no-brainer for me.
Installation: I'm including this section for information purposes only; I can't add or remove stars based on this because the install is governed by the design of the AR-15, not of this product. Installing these springs can be done without any special tools or experience. I found it to be one of the more difficult AR-15 construction procedures however, simply because the disassembly/reassembly of the bolt requires some physical strength and the ability to carefully align very small holes while holding them with your three hands. If you have trouble installing these or do not have three hands, a tool is available â it is certainly not required however, as I did my install with two hands, a hand clamp and socket from a socket wrench â YouTube it. If I were doing more of these installs I would purchase the tool for convenience alone (Sinclair AR-15 Bolt Vise: 749-003-708WS.)
Just a better spring(29/11/2014)
I don't have much more to say from the review by "Mark of La Mancha" but I will add this. When installing these springs and closely compare them to any factory springs like them (I've compared them to Bravo Company, Bushmaster, JP, and Rock River Arms) and you'll notice the differences that set these apart. The cut at the ends of the CS wire versus a angle grinding job on military spec springs, the coating, and so on.
I've installed ten sets of these and while somewhat tricky to do with only two hands they are well worth it and a vast improvement on reliability and knowing that you will have excellent lifetime out of the springs without degradation of their strength.
