"Judge for yourself"(24/05/2010)
I'm not an expert at all so I'll just give you my observation of how my rifle extraction changed. The shell extracted a little further up on the brass deflecter, as seen by new markings on the deflector, around the middle of the deflector vs. the inside closest to the bolt. The brass also was deflecting foward at a trajectory of about 2 o'clock vs the usual 3,4, or 5 o'clock. If this is good let me know with another post. Hope it helped. Also the extractor took a little more preassure to reinstall than usual. I guess thats good. If you have [$] to blow get one. It couldnt hurt any.
Worked For Me(29/05/2010)
My brand new Bushmaster came with a defect. The first 20 rounds fired OK but then I had ejection failures where the bolt would strip off a new round and the new round would get cought up with the spent brass in the upper. The hotter the gun, the more frequent the stoppage until it jammed with every shot. I sent to to the factory for repairs and I had stoppages when I got it back, although not as bad.
I tried the D-Fender and I soaked the bolt carrier in automatic transmission fluid.
On a hot outdoor range, I fired a few hundred rounds with no hint of a problem.
I have no doubt my rifle is reliable at this point.
Expensive, but it works(23/05/2011)
Have a Bushmaster AR-15 that failed to extract spent cases correctly, causing multiple jams/malfunctions. Installed this product and the problem was solved immediately. It's ridiculously expensive for such a small rubber part, but it works.
Works great!(14/12/2011)
I had multiple problems with extraction in my 6.5 mm Grendel rifle. I bought this device and a Woolf extra power extractor spring. The extractor works great now. It's pricey for what you get, but it took an unreliable rifle and made it work. Easily worth the money.
It Broke(11/05/2012)
Used it for my LR-308 and broke after 50 rounds. It broke in the upper left part of the "D". Seemed like good quality when I took it out of the package, but found out it wasn't.
So far so good(06/08/2012)
Picked this up on a recommendation from a friend. Works well, no problems so far.
Worth Every Penny!(10/09/2012)
I was VERY skeptical. I have an older 11.5" AR that never functioned properly. Ejector would not hold onto the casing long enough for it to be ejected. Partial extractions and double-feeds were a common occurance. New extractor and spring did not solve problem. After installing the D-ring, I have not had ANY malfunctions! I have put over 1,000 rounds through rifle since installation. Never would have believed this simple item would've solved the problem. Ridiculous price for what cannot cost more than pennies to manufacture, but it is worth it!
Standard Upgrade(04/07/2017)
Love these things. I add them to all of my bolts just for extra insurance. Quick to install.
Adds Reliability(17/09/2017)
Used this in several firearms at home and down range. 100% reliable and eliminated failure to extract issues. The only drawback I found was that the increased extractor pressure would fling spent brass right at the head or neck of the person next to you. Be mindful of this since hot brass down the neck is not comfortable.
Please note: This NOT an authorized modification for military weapons; however, that being said I know many service members that swear by them including myself. Use at your best discretion and understand there can be consequences for using it. Check with your leadership first!
