Accurate, Temperature Readings For Bluing, Plating & Parkerizing Baths
Accurate temperature control of the bluing bath is absolutely a must for long lasting, true-color blue jobs. Brownells stainless steel Bluing Thermometer is carefully sealed for use in the caustic bluing bath. Each and every thermometer is calibrated and double-checked for accuracy. Cheap, poorly constructed thermometers cause more bluing failures than any other single thing, and it is our feeling that any company offering them for sale to gunsmiths has little knowledge of the bluing game. Brownells Bluing Thermometer has a long, 6" stem. Only 3" of the stem need to be immersed in the bath, leaving 3" of safety margin to keep the dial out of the salts. Supplied with a Clip to attach the Thermometer to the tank and keep it 1" from the side and 1" above the bottom of a 6" deep tank.
SPECS: Thermometer: Black numbers, silver face. 2-1/8;" (5.4cm) diameter, 50°-400° F. Clip: Stainless Steel. 2½" (6.3mm) long.

Excellent(12/10/2011)
Does exactly what it's designed to do and that's to keep an accurate watch on your bluing/parkerizing tank's temperature. I've tried some of the store bought brands in the kitchen aisle, but they were nowhere near as accurate for my needs.
Great, but stem not long enough!(16/03/2018)
I have been using these thermometers for years and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the thermometer itself and the way it functions. Several years ago I went from a 6 inch tall tank to a 9 inch tall tank to try to contain some of the splatter and mess while bluing, especially when adding water to the boiling solution. My idea was to run a taller tank, but still only run 4 to 5 inches of bluing solution so that there was more tank wall above the level of the solution to contain the mess. This has worked good for me and I am happy with it but it would sure be nice if the thermometer had a longer stem. As I run it the dial has to sit down inside the tank to get the stem deep enough into the solution for accurate readings. This puts the dial in the way a lot of the times when getting parts and baskets in and out. So that's my 2 cents worth. A great thermometer function wise but Brownells needs this same version with a 9 inch stem to work better with the tall tank that they offer.
