Positive Stops At On & Off; Simple, Fast Installation
The re-make of the famous Buehler Low Safety. Faster and much more convenient to operate than the factory safety plus, it will not interfere with even the lowest mounted scopes. Rotates through a 70° arc on the right side of the rifle with positive stops in both the "on" and "off" positions. Securely holds the bolt and the striker in the locked position. Precision CNC machined from high-quality steel, hardened at all wear points, polished and blued. No machining required for installation on M98. M93/96 may require grinding of cocking piece.

Requires Machining to Install(16/11/2009)
On the M-96 Swedish Mauser this safety requires at least 1/8" removed from the cocking piece to clear the safety body with a countersink for the safety screw head (my option). The other option is to grind about half of the cocking piece off on the safety side. Either way you also need to grind an angle on the cocking piece where the safety engages it. It helps to increase the bevel on the safety as well. The safety works okay - about like a Mark 2. Timney should modify to eliminate the machining - it wouldn't take much.
Nice product(01/10/2011)
I had to remove a bit of the lip on the lever portion to clear the standard safety ridge on the bolt shroud, and had to bevel down the engagement ramp as it will not clear the cocking piece as it comes. I used a Dremel with a cut-off wheel(VERY gently), and then a 240 sanding wheel to smooth it out. You could probably do the same with various grit sanding wheels. The screw is a T-7.
Does not work(15/08/2012)
Safety does not have spring and detent so is not functional as sent.
Beware of LOCTITE!!!!!(10/12/2014)
Installed this on a Voere, commercial Mauser. Pretty much dropped right in, I'll have to SLIGHTLY releive the cocking peice, but no big deal...
The BIG issue I had:
Timney apparently decided it was necessary to RED LOCTITE the screw in, on a part that HAS to be taken apart for installation!!!!!!!
Needless to say I have a stripped allen screw, and a pretty ugly mark on it where I wound up using pliers to then get the screw out!!!!!
IF you buy this, put some heat to it before you try to take the screw out.....
A product that really works(15/09/2009)
Very easy to install
Fitting was required!(01/06/2010)
I ordered the m98 safety, but the one I received must have been the m93/96. It required removal of quite a bit of material to fit properly.
Best aftermarket Mauser safety(16/08/2010)
Easy to install... just read and follow the directions. If you don't know enough or can't install this item correctly, you shouldn't be messing with the safety in the first place.
Great Product(05/03/2013)
I have installed over twenty of these safeties.. they are the best aftermarket M-98 Mauser safety available.... period!!!
Works well(10/02/2014)
I installed this safety on a Czech Brno 98 Mauser. I needed to grind away a little material off of the cocking piece to get it to work, but that is part of the normal installation. Going slow and testing it over and over as you remove material will get you a good fit. It's a good deal for the money. It's not a perfectly smooth safety, but it is way better than the original 3 position safety and this one will clear the scope.
Didn't work for me(21/07/2014)
Skimpy on the instructions and requires more fitting than I have tools for. Mine went in the spare parts box.
Overpriced garbage(17/07/2015)
tried installing in a vz-24 doesn't even bother to allow the bolt shroud to fully spin back into the bolt body.
Much love for Timney(12/12/2015)
Much easier to install than previous options. Looks great, works great. Take it to a smith for proper installation and testing because it is worth having on your Mauser.
Great part. Not so great instructions(29/09/2016)
I might be fortunate. I see some other reviews where fitting was required. This wasn't the case with my rifle. The timney safety dropped right in and was an excellent fit in my BRNO VZ24.
The instructions were a little light. I think they could have been a little more descriptive with the directions. Thankfully I am familiar with how a 98 Mauser safety works, and was able to get it installed regardless. Had it not been for the light instructions I would have rated this part 5 stars.
