Premium Leather, Extra Heavy Hooks, Stitched Keepers, U.S. Made, 6" Longer - 54" Front Strap, Increases Usable Length, Available in Tan or Black
If you love fine leather, fine craftsmanship and a superbly functional, useful sling, our Competitor Plus is going to make you extremely happy! What you get is a no-compromise reproduction of the original 1907 Military Sling; the one that's become the standard among hi-power service rifle shooters and many knowledgeable hunters; the one that's sought after by collectors and restorers of pre-WWII military firearms and the one that's carried more guns, more miles on more shoulders than darn near any other. Ours has all the good stuff: 1) It's all U.S. made of the finest, oak-tanned, top grain, U.S. steer hide. 2) It's fitted with thick, forged, blued steel hooks. 3) Each hook is attached with three rivets. 4) The Keepers are stitched and fit TIGHT! Once we eliminated all the shortcomings of the current crop of '07 copies, we convinced a sling maker that folks who use their guns really do want better not cheaper. Once the maker believed, they gave us suggestions concerning the leather. Ooohh, the leather! It's absolutely wonderful. A full heavy-weight, 9-10 ounce leather, tanned correctly for sling use to give maximum flexibility, stability and toughness without stretching or being oily. The tanning makes the Competitor Plus Sling leather what it is. The process starts with a complete hide that's shaved just enough to make it even thickness throughout. Then it's painstakingly tanned using oak tannage, NOT chromic salts. (Chromic salts cause tarnish and corrosion on any metal the leather touches.) Finally, the smooth, burnished finish which shows off the natural grain of this high-grade leather. All this time and effort means Competitor Plus Slings can bend and twist for a tight grip with no splitting or cracking, even across the holes, with no more than the barest minimum of medium tanning oil being added during the process. Your careful adjustments and precise shooting position won't be fouled up by a rubbery sling. Each extra thick, blued steel hook is locked onto the leather with three hand-hammered, copper rivets. The extra steel keeps the hooks from bending under the extreme pressure created when you lock into position. And, the hooks fit their holes TIGHTLY…no slop to mess up a hard hold and no accidental unhookings. Even the keepers are designed as part of a working sling. Since they absolutely must fit and grab the straps tightly, ours are skived at a taper, overlapped and then glued and stitched with 5-cord waxed linen thread. They'll hold your adjustments! The end result is a sling that gives you so much more: more service for so much longer as a traditional field sling; more authenticity as a replacement for restorations; plus more, higher match scores by eliminating a concentration-breaking source of problems. You can spend your time glassing for game, doping the wind or paying attention to sight picture and trigger squeeze instead of fiddling with the sling. This level of exceptional quality is a little more expensive, but we honestly believe you'll agree it's more than worth it.

Excellent Product(16/11/2009)
I bought this for my AR 15 to use for marksmanship training [@]. This sling is very high quality and should last a long time. I bought another brand for my Ruger 10/22 for about a third the price, but should have bought two of these. It's very comfortable, holds its position, and made of high quality materials and workmanship.
Nice Sling(30/07/2015)
Nice sling; I placed on a 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun!!
Excellent product(22/09/2015)
I just ordered three of these. Two for me and one as a present for a friend. His and one of mine are going on Garands, and my other one on a1903A3. I already have one on a 1903 Springfield. They are high quality, fit well and really make those old military rifles look good. These are the only rifles I've actually bothered to learn to use the tight sling with, and this sling helps you out a lot. The first one brought instructions on how to properly install and adjust for use. And they work. I've come across other instructions on the internet and they didn't quite work. So, save the instructions, as they are important. I can't praise them enough. They have that military look and function quite well. Somewhat stiff, took a while to shake out the folds from the packaging.
You won't find a better sling(20/09/2018)
Well made, easy to adjust. I have three of these, one on an AK platform, one on an AR-9, and one on an AR-10. When adjusted correctly, this sling provides a rock solid brace along with your support arm. Be sure and follow the illustration on the back of the package, as the written directions suck.
THE Military Sling!(16/02/2011)
This is the BEST quality 1 1/4" military sling on the market today.
Excellent Quality(05/04/2013)
You won't find a better sling for your rifle. This is a quality sling for a bargain price. Don't pass this one up!
Hook rivets can scratch rifle stock(30/05/2013)
Purchased: 13 May 2013. Overall, the sling is very suitable and functional for my M1903A3, and the materials are of high quality. However, I noted the "blued finish" on the hooks chips easily, and the hook rivets are not flush and the edges are a bit rough. (See picture) The installation directions have the hooks facing away from the stock. The rivets become an issue if you experiment with the installation to find the best fit and install the sling where the hooks face the stock. The rivets scratch the stock. I know I can return the sling (called and confirmed); however, I have put too much time oiling and shaping the sling, and a new one will still have the exposed rivets. I'll probably grind the rivets flush and move on.
Need more rifles to install this sling(01/03/2014)
Bought for my recently acquired 30-30. The product is everything as advertised! When first entering purchase info on an unseen product I was somewhat leery. Arrived when promised. Quality as promised. Solid buy. Please resist ALL urges to install it immediately. Condition the leather. I used Lexol. One treatment a night for 3 nights. When it smelled like leather I applied one more. This is truly the one. But do yourself a favor and give it the proper prep work before installing it and it will be a sling you can pass on for generations.
Where to start...(18/07/2016)
There seems to be three levels of standard M1907 reproduction slings out there. The low tiered 25 dollar ones that are for looks, the top tier that are for shooting, and everything else. This sling fits in the everything else section. It's better than the ones for looks, but is near useless for Highpower.
The reason I ordered this sling was because there were no Turner leather slings in the size I wanted. I used Turners for years in Highpower, and these Brownell slings are no Turners.
The sling arrived dry as a bone. The keepers are not tight enough to hold in a shooting position. The sling feels cheap, had off rolled lines, and is no where near worth 50 bucks. It's probably as good as an original sling, but this would never stand up to shooting Highpower. If you are contemplating a shooting sling for actual use. Do yourself a favor and buy a real Turner. The only decent thing on this entire sling are the steel parts. That's just not good enough.
Best as a hunting sling(13/01/2017)
As a high-power competitor I thought I'd give one of these a try to see how they compare to Ron Brown and Turner slings as a spare.
Unfortunately the description considerably overstates the quality.
Hooks are definitely thinner than the better slings, but are still strong enough to do the job.
The leather used is extremely elastic and actually rubs off on my shooting coat leaving leather fluff on the sleeve.
Overall just not a sturdy platform for the serious competitor
This sling would be more suitable as a hunting sling than a competition sling.
If you're a serious competitor stick with Ron Brown or Turner.
Kudos to manufacturing in the USA, just needs better grade of leather.
