Non Maring(02/09/2017)
I just Cerakoted a Remington 870. The fire control pins were coated to avoid rust, the bane recent 870's. The pin was now too tight in the receiver, I drove it in with this punch from both sides and then installed the fire control. No marring even though the pins were tight. Another great tool from Brownells.
4-Way Nylon/Brass Punch Set(03/09/2009)
Well made punches, replaceable tips are especially handy for gunsmiths as you tend to go through punches over time.
I Got a Little Different Packge(06/02/2011)
You can't tell from the description, but what I received was a package containing four metal punch holders and four screw in tips. Three brass tips, one nylon tip and what looks looks like a reinforcing pin.
Extremely Happy With This Punch Set(25/09/2011)
Punchs and drifts for sights, large pins, etc, are often a balancing act; brass bends, breaks and deforms. You can dress the tips a few times but eventually it will have to be replaced (and with the price of copper/brass even making your own from stock isn't cheap any longer). Steel lasts but mars the finish. With this set you get a sturdy, easy to hold handle and non-marring tips in useful sizes. When the tips are passed being dressed, just buy a new one. As a plus, I can shape the brass or aluminum tips to suit specific uses like matching the side of a sight. I wish they made some soft iron or steel tips for times when finish protection isn't an issue.
I've noticed someone re-selling the basic set on other sites for three times the cost!
Handy and Versatile Punch Set(03/08/2014)
Great punch set. A person can change tips quickly and if one becomes damaged can be replaced easily and at low cost. Tips can also be reformed if someone uses the punch too heavily. Knurled handle is very easy to hold. Super for drifting out or replacing sights.
Nice but could have been better.(19/11/2015)
I like the versatility and replaceable tips.
Unfortunately the manufacturer for Brownells could have at least Blown of the punches after the knurling process. Metal chips were everywhere including the internal threads. had to blow them out and chase the threads on a couple.
with exception of this i do like the punches.
Just falls short of 5 stars(24/05/2018)
I bought this to work on sights and other occasional issues that require a non-marring punch and this should work for that application. The thing I have a problem and why I couldn't give 5 stars has been mentioned before. The metal filings need to be removed from the threads. A quality tool shouldn't have metal filings and the threads should be clean. Just a simple thing required for a quality tool.
Weak but affective non-the-less.(13/11/2009)
We use the nylon punch to remove brass facings from parts. Without the reinforcing pin it breaks after about the 10th hit. The pin adds strength, but will scratch when the nylon cover breaks. We'll usually get another 5-8 hits with the pin installed. We are applying a lot of force on these. I'm sure with less force, they'll last longer.
Right tool for certain jobs(08/10/2014)
This is the right tool to use to prevent marring a surface. They will break if you hammer too hard with them but that's why they are replaceable.
Would buy again(14/10/2009)
Good quality..Ingenius idea..Great little punch set..Good for almost any job..
Good Product!(12/02/2012)
Worked great for removing/installing rear sight on my glock. Came with both nylon and brass tips, just needed the nylon. Did'nt leave any marks on the sight.
Great little tool(04/05/2017)
Used to install a plain steel sight on a Glock and the nylon end was perfect, no marks left. And the ability to switch to brass is a bonus. Wish I'd had one years ago.
