fits 20ga too!(26/02/2010)
Although it says it's for 12ga only, this stock fit my daughter's 20ga 500 just perfect (my daughter outgrew the "bantam" stock on her gun). The Hogue website's "knowledge base" said that this buttstock was interchangable between 12 thru .410, so I took a shot... no other synthetic stock maker claimed their product fit a 20ga. Hogue's fore-ends, however, fit 12ga ONLY. If you're looking for a nice lightweight & tough as nails buttstock for a 20ga 500, this is it. Easy installation, perfect fit.
Good for the price(10/06/2012)
For the price point you can't beat it. The overmolded grip at the pistol grip of the stock feels good as well as the overall LOP. Installation was quick and easy but be aware it does not come with a stock bolt. However the mossberg OEM stock bolt worked just fine. Make sure you have a long flat head screw driver for installation. Also use the bolt washer that comes with the stock as the Mossberg factory washer is to small. Some things I did not like. Compared to the factory stock ( I replaced the short LOP one it came with), this one seemed as though it was thinner walled and not as rigid. Still solid but I would have liked it heavier. Also the stock did not fit tight against the receiver. This is a personal preference, because although its on there solid and isn't moving anywhere, there is an ever so slight gap. Last, the buttpad is soft but I don't feel it will hold up to serious use. I guess time will tell. Overall happy with the purchase and a nice match with the Hogue forend.
No screw(24/05/2013)
I bought this one and was deeply disapointed. It does not include a mounting screw and standard one does not work.
I have a cruiser model with a pistol grip that has a short screw that could not come even close to what this stock requires for installation.
There is no replacement screw included in the package, just a useless washer that does not fit anything.
For comparision I also purchased a collapsable stock from blackhawk and it did have a replacement screw provided of the right size.
Also keep in mind that this stock needs a very long (at least foot long) alen wrench. I bet most of people do not have it in household. Again hague did not provide it, but blackhawk did (unfortunatly not long enough to work with this stock).
Instruction is poorly written with some orphographic typos. For example in one place bolt is called bolD. It does not metter but shows attention to the details.
This product is made in Mexico not in United States.
Overall, I do not know what to do with this item. May be send it back to brownels or just look somewhere for a long screw and try to fix it in place as returns can be a hassle.
Not quite what I expected(13/04/2012)
Mounted on a 12ga 500 with pistol grip only.
Stock feels good. The rubberized coating on the pistol grip does not extend to the rest of the stock. It has the synthetic matte plastic finish.
You MUST disassemble the receiver to install this stock. This stock did not come with a bolt to fasten it to the receiver, and the old bolt was not long enough. A trip to the hardware store for a 5/16-18 allen bolt was needed. I returned with a 2 1/2 in bolt that was too long and broke the safety tab on the back of the trigger. You will have to find a new bolt and cut to size AFTER you tear down the receiver. That is only for your application if you have a Cruiser-type shot gun. I am replacing my trigger through Brownells as well.
Mossberg customer service knew immediately how I had broken the trigger, and stated it would not be covered under warranty. Further they explained that the trigger was a restricted item and could not be shipped to me if I was not a gunsmith. Brownell's part was cheaper anyway.
