Typical Latigo Excellence.(14/05/2011)
I've used Latigo Slings for many years. The cutting and installation instructions will leave you with a short sling on some AR based rifles. The instructions are the only flaw in what may be the best "hasty" sling on the market. The instructions need to be updated to better suit the deep receiver profiles of mil spec rifles. The Latigo needs to be left longer to suit the AR type profiles. Try before cutting.
The end to the need for multiple slings!(16/01/2011)
I have two of these and have used them for more than 20 years. Their ease of use and the ability to rapidly adjust makes them the perfect sling. I have a multitude of varmint, predator and big game rifles. The one second length adjustment makes it easy to switch the sling to the rifle of the day and adjust as tight or loose as you like. Long ago I gave away the multitude of other slings that required ten minutes to adjust. You can't go wrong with these?
My Favorite Sling(29/05/2017)
This is the sling I like the most for my lever action rifles. It's a very simple and quick sling.
Still looking good(01/05/2012)
My Dad bought this model sling back 1967 for his HVA 7mm Rem Mag bolt action rifle and it still looks great and works fine. Excellent quality sling that's been around for a long time and proven itself.
good sling(04/04/2014)
Just like one we had on a 22 when I was a kid. I suggest you try the length out before you cut. I find leaving them long allows for carrying across the body, even though it means you can't quite fully retract the sling into a taut position against the rifle. I also recommend some leather treatment (I used Kenetrek) before assembly when it is easier to apply.
A superb sling!(18/11/2011)
I put this sling on a Husky 46A and it's been great. I feel much more confident taking offhand shots now and my accuracy has improved with it. I've carried it for 2km's on my back with no discomfort even though it's a 1" sling. Easy to follow instructions to have it set up to your rifle. The only two "bad" things about it are price (I'm a cheap guy) and how unless your other rifle(s) have the same stud spacing, it doesn't work as well. Those are just minor things, and no one should hesitate to buy one.
I'll buy this sling each and every time(13/09/2013)
simply said the sling is easy to adjust, highly functional , and very comfortable to use. When I buy a new rifle ,it goes without saying, I'll buy another Latigo sling. I now have 8 Latigo slings
Great Sling But(07/12/2012)
In the directions it explains how to measure between the swivles and then cut the tag end. You should have that as the last directive so the person can try the full length of the sling. With heavy clothes this is how I would prefer it especially because I am a big guy. It's to tight to sling across body for me based on this part of the instructions. You can always adjust the tag location and cut off as a last step. Needless to say I have to buy another one.
You're a fool to buy anything else.(16/04/2015)
Just ordered, I think, my sixth Latigo sling. (I don't like changing slings per rifle). One Sling-One Rifle!! I've tried all the ballistic nylon high tech stuff out there. But nothing like real quality leather that you can trust no matter what you drag it through.
These are the best rifle slings availabl(06/05/2018)
I used slings like this in the 70s and had wanted one for many years. It is everything I could have expected.
I use this product for all my hunting.(05/08/2009)
I have used this product on all my hunting rifles for twenty years now and haven't found any better. And believe me, I have tryed several different slings. What I like so much about it is that I can carry my gun, use it as a shooting sling to steady my aim and not least, if i am stalking, I can tighten it up so it is out of the way and not get tangeled up in brush as easily as a conventional sling. The quality of the leather used is also outstanding. It can be a little slippery on the shoulder for carrying compared to some of the neoprene slings, but this can be fixed by stitching a button to your jacket shoulder which will stop it from sliding off.
Great product(29/11/2009)
I have been hunting for over 30 years and wish I had found this sling before now. Took it out for deer season and really like how well it performed. Will buy another. The only thing I would improve would be the instructions.Could use more photos.
My Favorite Sling(20/06/2010)
I bought this on recommendation and like a prior reviewer wish I had found out about it sooner. I move this from rifle to rifle because it is my favorite. I carried a 10lb plus rifle on an 10 day Alaskan Sheep and Bear hunt and really appreciated the ability to snug the rifle to my chest. I also used a rifle holster that shifted most of the weight to my hips. The combination of these two accessories really made for a more pleasurable and safer hunt. I wish I could afford to have a Latigo for every rifle, but alas I spent all my money on that AK hunt. My rifles will probably be sharing this one for a while. Well, maybe I could afford just one more.
Great sling directions need care(14/04/2011)
Would have given it 5 stars but for the directions.
The way it tells you to measure and cut to length does not work if you have long arms. My sling is too short for prone now. Test before cutting!!!
As for usage. This sling is great to give you a solid shooting position. All the benefits of a military sling without all the hassle
Great Sling(28/11/2013)
This sling is the epitome of what a sling should be. It's leather, it adjusts out adequately and quickly, and it's attractive on my Ruger 77 Safari. This is the last sling you will have to buy. I have another brownells sling that is 20+ years old and is as good as new or better because it is broken in well. Now having said all that, be advised that if you wear your rifle cross-shouldered like I do, before you measure and cut as the instructions tell you, try it at full length, otherwise you may have a sling that is too short. I'm 6'2" and weigh 225, and with hunting clothes on, full length is just about right.
Old reliable(28/01/2015)
An original, Brownells Latigo Sling (marked "Made in West-Germany") has been attached permanently to an old, iron sighted pre-64 Model 70 since the early 1970s. It has been carried everywhere I have gone, sometimes as a primary rifle, other times as a backup - from shark watch in the south Pacific to bear protection while fishing in the Aleutians and everywhere in between. A little neatsfoot oil infrequently has kept it going. Lost the Chicago screw once, so replaced it with a nylon-locking type.
Don't waste your money, greatly overpric(30/01/2016)
I was actually looking for the hunter quick release sling and was unable to find one. (I later found one on another site) So I ordered this one at more than double the price. The leather is not as nicely tanned as the Hunter sling with only one side slick tanned. The brass fastening screw strips out when you tighten it, making it difficult to remove if readjusting the sling. Soft brass. The design is not as good as the Hunter, having only one fastening screw instead of two to hold the loop in the correct position. With the coarsely tanned leather on one side, adjusting the sling takes time with much tugging and the need to use two hands. I over-came the lack of an additional screw to secure the loop by purchasing screw inserts for fastening saw blades. It works better now but still very slow to adjust. A very overpriced sling.
Excellent Sling(30/01/2016)
I installed the sling on my Marlin 1895 Guide Gun. I followed the instructions and cut it to fit. Installation was fairly simple. The sling is simply excellent. The ability to quickly adjust is a real benefit and it functions well as a shooting sling. I would definitely recommend and may buy one or two more for other rifles.
Still using one after twenty years...(17/05/2017)
I purchased a single Latigo sling twenty years ago. It has been the sling I take into the woods every year regardless of which rifle I choose to use for hunting season. I've applied saddle oil to it every year and has worked just fine. It has been soaking wet, stained with sweat, frozen solid, and baked in the sun... and it still does what I expect it to do without issue. I've never had any problems with the single brass screw and the rough side of the leather still does it's job of keeping the sling where you set it. It may not be good for a target shooter, but it is good as a no-nonsense hunting sling.
