It works ! (14/06/2015)
It made my #1 45-70 into a tack driver. Most important I am now getting consistent groups. #1's have bedding issues. My issue was drifting points of impact. I would sight the rifle at 100 yards and get decent three shot groups about 1 1/2 inches. Problem was if I would go to the range another day the rifle's point of impact would change. I would get the 1 1/2" group but in another area of the target. The bedding would not allow the rifle to hold zero.
The hicks cured the problem. The free floating and harmonics tuning worked as advertised. Now I'm getting 3/4" groups with Hornady 325 gr FTX . The best is no more impact changes. Groups now are always 1 1/2 inches high and centered at 100yds
No apparent basis for the claims.(10/04/2016)
First, it takes more than minor inletting to properly fit this part.
After receiving clarification from the manufacturer on the proper installation, I tried to improve accuracy using three different bullets. There was no success. This part uses the spring characteristics of the hanger to apply a force on the barrel while also causing the forearm to separate from the barrel. Given the stiffness of the barrel is several orders of magnitude greater than the hanger, I fail to see how the small force created by the deflection of the hanger could improve accuracy. Also, the hanger is not symmetrical which means the hanger will not deflect in a straight line (it will twist a small amount). Moreover, I don't believe the stiffness of the hanger will provide any damping on the barrel to alter vibration characteristics (that is, tuning). Had I been able to perform this analysis prior to purchasing and installing, I don't think I would have made the purchase.
