Very Nice Night Sights(06/12/2012)
I picked up a NIB M&P Shield 9mm in a trade recently and decided it needed some night sights since it will be one of my carry guns. After looking at all of the options, I decided on these due to the price point and the styling of the rear sight.
They arrived today and installation was easy enough. Neither the rear nor the front sight needed any fitting. The rear slid in by hand, which is fine since it has the set screw to hold it in place anyway. I felt that the front sight was a little too easy to tap in, so I removed it and added a little loctite under it to make sure it doesn't move under recoil. It probably didn't need it, but I wanted to be sure.
The rear sight didn't really hang over the edge of the slide, but due to the narrower slide on the Shield, the "contour" didn't really match up with the slide. It would in no way affect function, but I took a small file and reshaped the profile of the rear sight (in the area of the dovetail, not the sighting portion) to make it match the slide better. A bluing pen touched up the filed area just fine.
For reference, the front sight is actually finished black much like the factory sights and slide, but the rear sight is more gray, and the bluing pen matched very well. Someone would have to inspect closely to even be able to tell that I did anything to the rear sight.
I have not tested for POI yet, but comparing with the height of the factory sights, this set should do just fine.
The sights are VERY visible in both daylight, low light, and pitch black conditions.
