not a drop in for Para Warthog(22/08/2014)
The Para Ordinance Warthog won't accept this due to several reasons. 1 the notch in the release that the slide slips into isn't wide enough, the geometry isn't correct. I literally had to dremmel cut it on the inside to make it fully seat. 2 the tab that locks UP into the slide (to lock the slide back) is too short front to rear. As the slide recoils, the 555-105-211 Masen slide stop hops up into the rear notch on the slide, the one used to remove the slide stop lever. That will be unnecessary wear along with the chance of the gun jamming by stalling the slide. 3 you may choose to fit the slide release to the factory grip, it DOES interfere. 4 the release needs to be low enough for the locking tab to clear the slide itself, this one needs to be trimmed on the underside to lower it, at least to fit the Para Ordinance Warthog.
Very poorly made slide stop(24/12/2011)
This slide stop will require lots of fitting and is not a drop in. Even the thumb pad had to be ground to make room on the stock Colt wood grips. Also had to fit the post that goes through the frame. Then the magazine catch and slide notch had to be ground so that the magazines and slide would lock up. What a piece of junk!!!
Works fine AFTER fitting(26/05/2014)
This extended slide stop works great if you don't mind doing a lot of fitting. I had to file down the inside edge and the underside of the release pad in order to clear the plunger tube and grip panel. This is not a drop in part for my Para Ord P13.45. Despite the fitting involved I prefer this part over the more expensive Wilson Combat extended slide release which does drop right in. I keep the Wilson Combat as a backup replacement part.
This Mason extended slide stop has a longer and wider extended release pad surface which is long enough to allow me to release the slide with my thumb while maintaining my full grip which I cannot do with the Wilson Combat extended slide stop since it has a slightly shorter and thinner pad surface.
You have to decide which features are more important to you when deciding which part to use.
Don't be afraid to do a little filing to fit various replacement parts. Some parts are easier to fit than others so even relative novices can file to fit certain parts that are not tolerance critical. Plus lots of these small parts are relatively inexpensive so if you mess up just buy another one. As far as finish is concerned it is acceptable.
Inexpensive Slide Stop - Does the JOB!(02/10/2009)
I bought this for my Taurus PT1911 SS. What I was looking for was an inexpensive slide stop that fit the finish of my gun. The finish of this slide stop is bead blasted and does not match the shade of the Taurus SS model. The finish of the slide stop is rough when I first got it. I simply used some sand paper and polished the piece. After polishing it matched in color MUCH better. It DID require fitting to install in a PT1911. You need to file the top of the slide stop which rides under the slide during operation. This is VERY easy to do... just take your time with the file and you will be done in about 10-15 minutes. I would recommend this slide stop, as long as you don't mind tinkering with it.
Good value for the price(15/10/2009)
I am very pleased with this extended slid stop. I did have to do about a minutes worth of work with my Dremel but overall the fit and function is excellent. (There was a very minor interference between the extension and the pistol frame) The added leverage is just what I was looking for.
Break out the file and polishing tools(31/10/2009)
The release pad is so long that if you use a high hold and rest your thumb on the safety your thumb may press on the release pad which may prevent it from holding the slide open after the last shot. I had to grind the pad back to prevent this.
The finish was rough bead blasted when I went to polish it to a satin finish I was surprised at how deep the machining marks went. It took a lot of work to get it to look good.
Cosmeticaly this part is very poorly finished. The picture in the catalouge is decieving.
Functionally it is very good, it has the largest contact area of any extended slide release I have tried and you can easliy release it from your shooting position.
Fit great, finish horrible(31/03/2012)
The stop needed some minor fitting but overall was an excellent match for fit. The finish however was horrible. It is a rough cast and blasted dull stainless when you get it. Don't know of any gun finish it matches if left as is. It would make your worst shooter look even worse. I planned on getting it plated except I did not think it would need that much work to get it ready. Spent about 4 hours sanding and polishing before it was ready for nickel plating. Plan on doing something with the finish if you order it. Great part for quality of fit but they need to up their quality of finish.
Not bad(16/06/2012)
Fit it in 15min.,finish very close match to Colt 1991-A1 SS.
OK, I guess(08/07/2012)
I really wish I would have read other reviews before buying! I've tinkered and built 1911s for 25 years and I've never been so disappointed with the finish or the fit of any 1911 part! The bead blasted finish looks NOTHING like the picture on the site and nothing is mentioned about it being blasted. It is a medium to dark gray color, not even close to a silver as shown. Also took an hour to fit. While I am capable of doing this, this is the first slide stop I've ever bought that took ANY fitting. Super disappointed in part and Brownells for poor description.
Very Disappointed(23/01/2013)
I ordered the stainless Masen extended slide stop for my Sig Sauer 1911.It is a piece of junk. The finish is terrible and you can see where they attached the extension on the slide stop.Horrible workmanship.I ordered a different one right from Sig Sauer. It was cheaper and its perfect.I will never order anything from John Masen again!
Well worth the money!(05/12/2009)
Dropped right in my Colt 1911 9mm without any issues, Functions perfectly and looks great. I would recommend for anybody that prefers a extended slide stop.
Not the best quality(02/02/2010)
I would not consider this piece a drop in part. The fit of this part in my gun I am currently building is fine, but the finish of the part was VERY rough. I liked the idea of checkering instead of serrations, but a few lines of checkering were actually slightly cut right down the middle of the points. All of the edges on this piece were rough, and required a great deal of polishing to get it to look presentable. The funtion of the part was completely fine, but I could not rate it very highly because if I were not a gunsmith whocan polish this piece and reblue it, it would not be an aesthetically pleasing piece.
Required a lot of fitting(12/06/2010)
Prodict was out of square, reference the pin to the bar and required extensive bending and fileing to fit.
OK, but needed a lot of work(14/11/2010)
Finish is rough. Blueing is not durable. Required about an hour of work to fit and function properly. The the part had to be worked on a wheel to get all the factory tool marks out, then reblued. A more expensive name brand part that was truly drop in and with a quality finish would have been worth the extra money.
If you have the time, patience, experience and equipment this is a very inexpensive project part. But be prepared to put more time into it that it is worth. My opinion.
my rock island loved it and so did I.(21/07/2011)
Perfect. It doesn't get any better. after reading the bad reviews i took a chance and it worked out great.
Decent Slide release for the price(22/02/2012)
I purchased this item with the intention to fit and finish it myself. I was able to do this with limited tools and abrasives. The entire gun is getting coated so cheap bluing was not an issue for me. If you want a drop in fit and finish with no fuss, this is not the product for you. If you want to custom fit, then I think its a decent product at a good price.
Exactly as advertised great value!!!!!(07/02/2013)
For being half the price of competitor products,I expected this part to be rough and require fitting/finishing just to fit. Instead it dropped in perfectly and works flawlessly right out of the package! The surface finish is a matte black as it appears to have gone straight from being machined to being blued. All of the corners and edges are sharp and will need to be broken for your individual taste. You will have to polish it before re-bluing if you want it to have a high shine. Since I expected to have to do some level of finishing, I don't think this detracts to much from the overall value. For me, the finish closely matches the pistol I am mounting it on (Norinco Model of the 1911A1). So I just need to soften the edges and touch up the bluing. I don't think you can beat the value for the price!
Worked well then...(23/02/2013)
Bought for a PARA 1911 Commander clone. Dropped right in and worked well the first couple of trips to the range. Then it failed to catch on the mag and did not catch the slide. Do not have the time to play with it and see if I can make it work. Switching to Wilson.
Worked great on my Auto Ordnance(24/11/2015)
Matte finish looks good with original finish on my Thompson Government Model. Drop in with no mods on my pistol.
Broke(13/09/2016)
broken before I could ever use it. This is a very cheap feeling and looking product. Do not recommend it.
