Go slow 30/03/2018
Take your time and go slow when you install these base pads, they will work. Tap the pre-drilled holes using a 4-40 tap ,once tapped when the screw starts to press the rubber gently âSTOPâ. The supplied screws will strip themselves clean if not tapped first even though the description states âNo modifications to the magazine requiredâ, Ask me how I know......

Bumper pad review 11/05/2017
Not impressed. Screws should be with a larger head. Overall installation is simple.

Fit Perfectly in Springfield Factory Mag 29/04/2016
Screws fit perfectly in Springfield Armory factory mags (1911 9mm RO Champion). Holes in base plate were already threaded so no need to tap.
They are self tapping machine screws, not sheet metal screws as the description and picture indicate. This is good as sheet metal screws would not work well. If the holes in the base plates had not already been threaded I would have used a tap to thread them. Not sure the screws would be strong enough to do the job.
My only complaints are the inaccurate description and that Brownells could not answer questions about the screws and was not concerned enough to find out or correct the description.

Poorly designed 11/02/2016
The screw heads are too small...the pad is not securely attached to the magazine.

Good product, good price 18/01/2016
After reading other reviews, I went ahead and ordered ten of this item. I found the easiest way to install them was to thread the existing holes in the mag base with a 4-40 tap (not a 4-48) for the screws supplied with my product. Since the rubber bumper is not solid, you do not want to over tighten them, just till you feel some resistance. It may help to look at how far down the screw heads are before installing the first one to get an idea of where they should end up. All in all an easy installation with no problems and a good product.

Self Tapping screws aren't complicated 24/11/2015
after reading through the negative reviews I decided to order the product anyway. inside the package is a simple counterbored rubber basepad, and two self tapping 4-48 screws that have a Philips #1 head. installation is simple using the proper sized screw driver, just use the screw to tap a thread into the mag baseplate in the hole provided. like a tap be sure you break the chip and back the screw out before going all the way through. you could, if you choose tap with a 4-48 tap. do not over tighten the screws as you can pull the threads out. use a good #1 Philips screwdriver or a new #1 driver bit, wera, or whia ext.... and you shouldn't run into any issues.
they are nice rubber basepads, they really are. these will fit any standard mil spec mag, metalform mag, or brownells mag. you will have to drill holes with a #42 drill into mags without pre drilled holes.

Materiel Junk 01/04/2015
The screws provided for this application are JUNK. Even the tech people are not sure what screw is suppose to be in the packaging. The catalog photos shows a sheet metal screw, but the package comes with a 4-48 self tapping machine screw. I have net even had the opportunity to drive the screw completely into the hole, accomplishing about 3 turns before the threads are completely gone. I am putting them on a Ruger SR1911 with a tapered mag well, using the standard Ruger 7 round welded mag (which the manufacture says is the only mag that is tapped) and have had to re-tap for a larger thread size, since the steel base plates are eating all the threads to the supplied screws. Bottom line, it's about a 50/50 shot that the screws will work. This $3.00 fix will cost you more in time and effort. If your time is worth anything, buy a production mag.

Sorry, Don't Waste Your Time Or Money... 21/01/2015
The screws supplied with the pad are junk. Both screws snapped in two about half way through securing the rubber pad to the base plate. I read the other reviews and thought I would still give it a try. Don't make my mistake....

The best pad for hard use. 14/03/2014
The negative reviews on these are due to improper installation. You simply screw them into a metalform magazine until the head of the screw lightly presses on the rubber, using a hollowground screwdriver so you don't damage the gun screws. Both the base of the magazine as well as the top of the screws are protected against damage even they fall onto concrete due to the use of rubber instead of hard plastic. I prefer this type of basepad over the ones used by other brands that use hard plastic. My two complaints with these are that a lot of dust and dirt sticks to the pad if you drop magazines onto sand or soil, and that the screws can go through the pad if tightened too much, though this hasn't been a problem as I have stopped when the screw starts to press the rubber gently. This is the best pad for dropping onto rock, asphalt or concrete, I have broken floorplates with almost every other type of pad. I have dropped even loaded magazines onto concrete without any damage with these. They also fit all calibers of metalform magazines.

Not worth the money 20/02/2014
I read the reviews about the screws not tightening up and the screw going right through the pad. I thought, "There is know way, these guys are just over tightening them." I was wrong. The screws will go right through the pads before they ever feel snug. I had ordered some SA magazines a while back at a discounted price and planned on putting these base pads on them. I wished now that I had just spent the extra money and ordered some mags that came with a base pad.

SCREWS ARE JUNK 28/09/2013
I am not new to the importance of the right fitting screwdriver. But.... the Bumpers themselves are pretty good but if you can get he self tapper to lock in tighten the Bumper to the Base the screw goes right on through and the Bumper is left in your hand. On my other attempts the screw stars/head strip out before you can get the Bumper seated. These are a bit of a joke actually. I ended up tapping the base plate for a threaded bolt, but only because I had the tools to do so. In all fairness they may have changed their screw offerings in their packaging but there is no way these will tap right in. After the first one failed I even ran a drill and bit in the holes to open & smooth them up a bit but it did not help. The fix - Better screws that fit as they should.

Great Value 25/04/2013
Nice, inexpensive bumpers that get the job done. I wish Kimber would automatically put bumpers on their mags, but if you gotta buy an after market product that works, this did a great job.

Good value 02/10/2012
I have a dozen of these attached to single stack 45 magazines. The provide the needed length to accomodate an S&A Magwell. They do what they are supposed to do -- bumper for bottom of magazine.
I attached mine with the supplied screws and blue loctite. Also used a little epoxy between the basepad and the magazine. Have not had trouble with the screws pulling through or bumpers coming off.
Keep in mind that base pads, like the magazines they ride on, are expendable items. They will wear out if you use them. These work just fine and last better than one might expect.
Bottom line -- they are a good value and do what they are supposed to do. Reasonable care during installation is all that's required.
Now if only Brownells carried the Lime Green metalform bumper...or encouraged them to offer some other colors to help keep different caliber magazines organized.

Rubber is to soft. 31/05/2012
I ordered two of these bases and found that the screws go right thru the rubber. Not happy. I also ordered the Springfield 9MM mags that have the same base pad. These are going to be used in some rough competition and I don't think they will last. A little harder rubber or a metal insert would have been better.

Good product 15/06/2011
These pads worked fine for me. Make sure you have the correct small phillips-head driver for the screws. Also, I put some adhesive on the base plate before attaching the pad. It made for an extremely solid install.

Fits Checkmate 38 Super Mags 06/05/2010
After ordering the Checkmate 10 round mags for my Taurus 38 Super +P which fit and work perfectly, I thought I would try these bumper pads even though they say they are for Metalform mags.
Fit perfectly. I added a drop of Loctite on the screws to make sure they did not move. Have not had a problem. Pads are nice and tight.

Junk! 19/08/2009
This item is pure junk. When you tighten the screws, they pull right through the soft rubber and out the other side of the pad, which then falls off into your hand. I cannot believe that Metalform actually offers these for sale. I couldn't get the site to accept Zero stars for this item, so I gave it a (1) just to get the warning out.
