Design Enhancements For Superior Performance; Standard & Ambidextrous Models
Novak takes the 1911 safety a step further with streamlined styling and several operating enhancements. A re-designed detent enables extremely positive engagement and helps hold the plunger tube against the frame to keep it from working loose. The right-hand paddle on the ambidextrous model is keyed and pinned to the shaft to prevent flex and eliminate the need for the grip to hold the right lever in place. It also permits a much slimmer paddle that works with any grip, including LaserGrips. Completely “carry beveled” with all sharp edges removed for shooter comfort and control.
SPECS: Carbon steel, blued, or stainless steel, natural finish. Fitting required for installation. Gunsmith installation recommended.

Novak NXT ambi excellent(27/04/2015)
Excellent product however the description works with laser grips is not 100% accurate. Some grips have the laser module reduced but I found it necessary to trim the right side lever to clear the laser on my older CT laser grips.
It does not say in the product description, but you will need a 1/16" roll pin starter and a 1/16" roll pin punch to secure the right side lever. Only one roll pin ships with the package 1/16x 0.270, not a size listed in the roll pin section of the catalog. Order some spare roll pins.
The ambi safety functions just fine as a single side and I suggest that you fit and used the safety for a while before pinning the final assembly. I could have saved a lot of money if I'd bought the Novak safety before a less expensive ambi safety.
instrutions should be included.(27/04/2013)
just like a kid, i was so excited to get my package today. it looked even better than expected. i mean, man, great part. this was the most expensive one yet, and i would rate a 5 easily if some one had included a how to get the tiny little pin in the tiny little hole to fasten the right side! what a pain! finally had it launch so far off the table i dont think i will EVER find it. so one nice pistole in my collection is gonna be out of commishion till i find a replacement and a clue on how to get finished. i mean come on! could they make one end slightly smaller so we can get it started?
uncomfortable for lefties(08/09/2016)
If you are lefthanded and shoot with your thumb on the safety this is not the safety for you. It is very uncomfortable. My gunsmith fit it to my 1911 so I can not send it back.
matte not stainless(01/11/2012)
in the description it states stainless steel but it is powered coat a dull grey. did not fit kimber custom II
This extended safety is a winner.(10/11/2012)
This extended thumb safety fills the niche for tactical or competition shooting. It requires gunsmith fitting as the sear contact ledge is oversized to fit to your specific gun. The dimensions and specs are absolutely precise with the contact points and pin axis aligned perfectly. After fitting, there was no slack or bounce while gripping the pistol.
Some tips: You might need to lightly bevel the safety's lug corner radius at the channel - so it won't shave your frame cutout. You can blend the corners of the safety with your Dremel to match your frame and beavertail. The polished surfaces contrast nicely with the matte finish.
Ambidextrous safeties are okay for many shooters, but this single side safety fits my shooting grip with better ergonomics. It allows a lower bore axis and more solid shooting platform without that weak-side safety lever pressing into your metacarpo-phalangeal joint.
The precision of manufacture is impressive. This part is even better than the King's Safety of years past.
Bravo, Novak.
Why did I order two?? (21/03/2016)
That was a mistake. First, my "stainless" safety came with a powder coated dark gray paint on it which took an hour to sand off with #320 paper. The sear lug had enough meat on it for proper fitting so that was OK. The problem with this unit is the profile at the front edge just below the detent for the plunger. It is cut back too far allowing the tip of the plunger to extend out of the plunger tube too far. Comparing it to my safeties from Colt, Dan Wesson and EGW the difference is obvious. In time, the over-extended plunger will oval out the end of the plunger tube. Not a problem if you have spare plunger tubes and a staking tool. But why bother. I'll stick with the EGW.
Perfect(25/10/2012)
Switched out an ambi safety on my Springfield duty gun. I had also ordered an Ed Brown tactical safety which paled in comparison, both in finish and function. Paddle is a nice medium size. Design keeps the safety from rubbing the frame. Detent is is secure; I polished the plunger for smooth movement. Finish perfect for a parkerized pistol, would be dull on a blued one.
Novak NXT Safety(31/03/2018)
I installed this safety in a Springfield Mil-Spec that I am tinkering with. I bought it because its a Novak part and I've had good luck with Novak's stuff. I am impressed with the attention to detail. No rough edges or points, no tooling marks or seams and the finish is even and smooth. The thumb pad is very comfortable with a thumb over safety grip. And the best part is the detents at the "off" and "on" position are very positive. No extra movement at all. It "snicks" like an old Colt safety. Finding all these plusses together is often a hard thing to do. So far, the only drawback I can see is that I now have a bunch of 1911s that are in need of one of these.
