Extra Surface Area Gives Tremendous Power To Clamp Hold & Even The Tightest Barrel
To complement our “Ring-Of-Steel” Action Wrench System, we’ve developed the only professional-quality Barrel Vise that will positively clamp and keep even the tightest barrel from turning during removal. Machined from solid steel for durability to service the barrel installation and removal needs of any gunsmith for years and years. Our exclusive four bolt system and extra-wide design generates so much holding force, the Brownells Barrel Vise must be firmly bolted to the stoutest bench or an immovable base to realize its full potential. Split barrel bushings come in a variety of sizes to fit many popular barrels (and some not-so-common ones) to make this universal Barrel Vise system the very first choice of professional gunsmiths. Steel Bushings provide years of service and have the necessary clamping power to break loose the tightest barrels. Aluminum Bushings also give a strong hold without risk of marring your barrel.

Super strong, holds barrels tight(08/05/2017)
We've been using these vises daily at our shop for over 25 years.
With proper barrel bushings, you can hold and break loose ANY
barrel., We've even taken off old Mauser military barrels,
that broke at 1200 ft/lbs of torque, without damage to the receiver or action. We also use the Brownells action wrenches.
The only downside is that the vise is a little slower to use
as there are 4 screws to tighten or remove.
Conversely, this is why the vise will hold any barrel without slipping.
Traction on polished barrels is increased by wrapping the barrel with a post-it note where the bushings grip.
We have used and put aside several other makes of vises,
As this vise is the best.
The Best(22/10/2009)
I have an older that always gave me problems with the barrels slipping. Don't know why I put up with it so long. This vise is absolutely marvelous.
Excellent Vice(06/05/2011)
I am a part-time custom gunsmith. I used one of the vices with wooden insert for about a year. I was disappointed due to barrels slipping especially on factory rifles. I finally decided I had had enough and purchased this vice set. I am very happy with the decision and I wish I had purchased it initially. Great product.
Much better design ...(21/02/2013)
I also used the common wooden style for a while and got fed up with barrels slipping. A couple of years ago, I made myself one that is almost the same design as the Brownell's version (would have saved money just buying it if had been available at the time). One hint, if your barrel is between bushing sizes, you can take up the slack with a few sheets of aluminum foil used as shim stock and get the perfect fit on ANY diameter barrel.
Barrel Vise with #7 Alum. Bushing I.D. 1(02/08/2016)
A little pricey but worth every penny.
Fit and worked perfectly, didn't even slip, no rosin powder or shims of any kind needed.
Works for Garands, not M14/M1A rifles(24/05/2011)
The product itself is very nicely made, the barrel vise and bushings are quality...But it will not work with an M14 type rifle. This set includes one small and one large bushing, and the M14 requires two large bushings no matter what its barrel weight. If you order the set of bushings separately you get THREE. Two large and a small. If you are working on heavy barreled Garands or M14 pattern rifles do NOT order this set.
The last tool you'll ever have to buy!(08/03/2014)
For years, I have rebarreld rifles using a large 6" bench vise, and some custom machined aluminum blocks. Last month, a customer brought me a Remington 700 BDL in .270 Win, that was at least 20 years old. First, I put it in my blocks, tightened the vise as tight as I could, and using the Brownell's Action Wrench, tried loosening it. Barrel started slipping. Now, I used a "cheater bar" to tighten the blocks SUPER tight... Then started turning again, then BAM! My iron bench vise snapped! This is the tightest barrel I'd ever encountered! Well, I broke down and ordered the Brownell's Barrel Vise with #10 steel bushing (1.225"), since I aleady had the matching Action Wrench. Now, I tightened the barrel in my new vise, and noticed it starting to slip! The hex key included with the vise doesn't offer much leverage, so I used a long socket wrench with a hex key socket, and really tightened her down. Now, the barrel is locked down, but I simply don't have the strength to turn the action wrench! I had to take a small sledge hammer covered in rubber padding to hit the handle of the action wrench to finally break this action loose!! Bottom line, I would NEVER have been able to remove that barrel without damaging the barrel or action WITHOUT the Brownell's Barrel Vise (and matching action wrench with Remington 700 heads). I wish I would've purchased this vise years ago!
Don't bother with any other vise!(11/06/2015)
With a lot of cussin' I've managed to loosen a couple of barrels with an "oak barrel block" model of vise. I finally had occasion to try it on one of the early model 700 Remington's (the ones with the glued in 50% thread barrels that everybody has so much trouble with) and finally had to give in and order this one. After mounting and setting up this vise with the correct sleeve it took less than 60 seconds to remove the barrel. Wish I'd been bright enough to get one of these in the first place. Great product!
5 years running and no complaints!(04/02/2014)
Quite simply I love this thing. I use old business cards between the barrels and bushings and have not left a mark on any of my barrels.
I use the vice to change out the barrels on my switch barrel guns. Super easy, no extra steps involved!
