Oversized, aluminum safety is larger than the factory part in every dimension to give your thumb more surface area for engagement. Taller height, wide back end and more pronounced steps give you more pushing leverage.

Vang comp safety(04/03/2010)
Wow [$] for a safety, yes if you want a safety you can depend on. It's positively on or off, and it will work better than the stock plastic one when in a stressful situation. A must have mod.
Good to Go(27/01/2012)
Bought this to go on my Mossberg 500. Excellent reviews from all sources, and they were right on the money. Easy installation, smooth action installed, feels/looks good. Very pleased.
Great mod(09/02/2014)
Ordered this and came in 4 days later. I taped the plastic safety down and removed the safety screw using a 3/16" screwdriver and some pressure. Replaced the safety with this one in about 5 minutes of my time. Very easy mod to do.
Great, quality product that I will definitely use on my full stock 590. However, I WOULD NOT recommend for the 590 Shockwave. Cheese grater effect can be a little much (admittedly only if the firing hand slips). Switching this with something smaller, but again, for a full stock shotgun it is perfect. Very positive surface to engage or disengage.
This thing is built like a tank. Still, on the "easy install" everything went wrong (of course). The detent ball escaped and took the detent ball spring with it. By a miracle I found both only to have the safety itself drop into the receiver. Crap!
So... I watched a You Tube and detail stripped the receiver.
Now the hex head screw appeared too long (as another reviewer mentioned), but wasn't bottoming out so I started cleaning the threads on the Mossberg part of the safety, chucked it in a vise, screwed in the hex screw, and now it all fit great.
Quick check of the schematic to make sure I oriented it correctly, dropped in the safety, detent spring, and detent, put on the Vang safety switch, torqued everything down, reassembled the action after cleaning and lubricating, function check, no extra parts, and we are good to go!
HUGE improvement over the stock safety, glovesâno gloves, cold, wet, just doesn't matter. Works so well I bought a second one for my 835.
