The major advantage of adding a tip to the bullet is the reduction of drag, producing a more favorable ballistic coefficient. Another benefit is reliable feeding in magazine fed firearms. Although the MatchKing line is recognized around the world for record setting accuracy, like their untipped counterparts, Tipped MatchKing (TMK) bullets are not recommended for hunting anything larger than varmints. Having heavier jackets than our Hornet or Blitz line of bullets, these bullets will not provide the same explosive expansion on small varmints.

Definitely recommended

Very good target bullet out to 600 + yards 21/02/2025

I am with leaders in comps firing heavier bullets.
This is why they are hard to get hold of in the Uk.

77 GR TMK 10/07/2018

I was able to put 3 out of 3 rounds in a 3" circle at 300 yards with my 5.56 1-7 16" machine grade barrel using a Nikon scope with the BDC reticle. I was using my Caldwell Lead Sled DFT 2 shooting rest. I have loaded several other bullets including the Sierra 77 GR HPBT but not with these results. I ordered several boxes as I have found my go to bullet.

Scattered Performance 22/08/2016

I am a bit confused to be honest, this bullet has both turned in some of the worst and best groups I have ever seen out of my mk12 clone. .3 inch, 5 shot group at 100 yards using Lake city brass and 23 grains of IMR 8208. After testing with 3 different powders and over 100 rounds down range I have come to conclusion their is something changing on the projectile in flight between my barrel and the target. This became more evident as the bullet approached 2800 FPS, the group opened to an astounding 4-5." This would be consistent with what I have read others experiencing; one individual was claiming the tips are melting in flight and this would certainly explain the varied performance.

They are consistent in weight and more consistent in length then its larger 77 grain cousin however unlike the 77 grain SMK, I am getting a radically mixed results generally anywhere from 1-2 inches with most falling closer to the latter. This is unacceptable for a target bullet out of a match quality rifle fired off of a led sled. I am sure that sierra will iron out the major wrinkles and maybe use a more durable polymer as its tip since this is essentially a new round.
