Brownells USA Pre 64 model 94 Winchester stock set 11/12/2015

I purchased one of these sets from another supplier for a much higher price. It was for one of two restorations I am working on. It is not a project for impatient people. It requires a good bit of fitting and attention to detail. That being said, with some patience and thinking before acting, it will come out as good, or better than the factory furniture. I removed the old furniture and started setting the individual pieces in place for test fitting. I used a fine scribe to mark the edges of the metal. After removing the marked wood, I used an orbital sander with 80 grit paper to remove the major portion of the excess on the forearm. I then used the same orbital sander with 100 grit until the lines were barely visible and finally 150 grit until the stock was smooth. I used fine metal files to trim the projections for the receiver recesses. After a number of fittings, the forearm had a better fit and appearance than the original. I did the same procedure for the stock. The only difference was that I placed the buttplate in position and screwed it in prior to marking the stock. I hand sanded the pieces with 220 grit after the last test fit The best advice I can give is be patient, take your time and think before you act. I will be purchasing my second one from Brownells.
