wish it would work(16/04/2014)
Bought this to replace the stock extractor on my taurus 1911, however when i recieved it i installed it and it does not contain the firing pin safety plug, it just falls right right so i guess i will be on the phone with brownells and wilson combat
Ignore 1 Star Review, This the real deal(20/09/2017)
Ignore the one star review, the reviewer obviously is not very 1911 savvy. There is no "safety plug" that comes with an extractor. I believe he mis-ordered the parts he needed. Anyway this extractor is exactly what you need for Series 80 1911s to replace the factory MIM extractor with a bar stock solid steel, high performing extractor.
Very first part to replace on any Kimber(24/11/2017)
I have bought and used many of these Wilson extractors on Kimber guns. This particular one is required for all newer Kimber's Series II Kimber 1911s since 2001. Earlier Kimbers to 2001 use the series 70 extractor.
I am not a gunsmith. I have never had a installation issue with any of these. I had 1 out of a dozen not fit perfectly flush to the gun's exterior - minor cosmetic issue. All extractors have been able to be inserted into the slide, and tuned for reliable function.
I would not trust any MIM extractor.
The next part to consider changing on a Kimber is the slide stop. I prefer Dan Wesson Valor forged slide stops; Ed Brown makes a good one but it has a smaller flared area than the Dan Wesson's part.
Neither of these upgrades should require a gunsmith, so you spend about $90.00 for a much more reliable Kimber.
The next area to consider for a reliability upgrade on a Kimber is trigger components, spending about $100-$150 for quality trigger components like C&S, or EGW which includes forged hammer, sear, and disconnector. Finally, I would spend another $30 to get a forged extended ejector like Wilson.
This should be the minimal replacement for Kimber parts if you plan to use the gun for defense at about $220.
Excellent and easy to install(18/12/2017)
The original extractor in my early productions Colf M1991A1 started to fail to hold tension. Ordered this extractor. First thing I noticed is the hook is correctly beveled out of the package. Installed it in my slide with a new Harrison Extreme Service Firing Pin Stop. I only needed to add a little more tension and it was perfect. The rear of the extractor almost matches the slide, you canât tell itâs a little long until you run your fingers over it. Looks great. Passed the 10-8 extractor test with 230gr ball and 230gr Gold Dots. I am very pleased.
Ignore the interview about the Taurus PT1911. The Taurus may be a clone of a series 80 Colt but itâs not identical. Series 80 is a Colt product and this part is made for a Colt product.
At first, When i tried to insert the extractor, it would not go in. I then pushed a little harder and (happily) it slid in snug as snug can get, with no movement into my Mark IV/Series 70 Colt.
Works great - Springfield 1911 A1 Mil Sp(18/08/2012)
I had to replace my extractor and the Wilson Combat Bullet Proof works better than the new one did. I'm getting another for my Micro Compact.
Great Extractor(26/08/2012)
Fit in my Kimber Custom II like a glove. Extractor fits flush on the rear of slide, and does it's job when firing the gun. Just had to bend it to get it to it's desired tension. The color is a nice matte black that blends in with the slide.
Beware(31/10/2013)
ordered 2 of these for a customer and they were both very weak. I could bend them with just my hands! I called Wilson's customer service and the tech told me they are having problems with their supplier. I thought they made them but apparently they don't. It could be a temporary issue but why risk it. I personally prefer Ed Browns parts.
Solved failures in my Kimber 1911s(03/09/2016)
I had a few polymer Kimbers with reliability issues. I bought these, tuned them according to instructions I saw on YouTube, and they have not failed me since. Later I added an EGW flat bottom firing pin stop to help when shooting +P loads. Love it!
