The locking lug area on most bolt action rifles has a tendency to collect brass chips from cases, brush bristles, primer residue, bolt lug grease, and solvents. This accumulation of debris can wear heavily on your bolt lugs. Our lug recess tool should be used routinely by every rifle owner to clean this neglected and hard to reach area. Lug Recess Tool - Specifically for cleaning the locking lug recess area. Use with felts or cotton rolls. Chamber Swab and Handle - For cleaning and drying the chamber. 8-32 threads for large bore mops. Bolt Brush - Double headed brush to scrub the bolt lugs, bolt face, and bolt body. The lug recess tool has a slotted head that accepts cleaning felts and cotton rolls (supplied with the tool). This tool is inserted into the action and rotated inside the lug recess areas. Solvent can be applied to the felts or cotton to remove debris. A dry felt or cotton roll can then be used to dry the area out. The chamber can then be wiped out with the swab handle and mop. The bolt should be sprayed down with a degreaser and scrubbed with the double-headed brush. Be sure to apply new grease to the bolt on the bearing surfaces of the bolt. The bolt shroud should also be routinely cleaned and re-greased. The Lug Recess Tool and Swab Handle are both made of stainless steel for a lifetime of use and can be purchased individually.

Good quality(15/04/2019)
Would have been nice to have the tool to remove the grub screw so could have been used straight out of the box. Other then that the quality is good
Simple snd effective(14/04/2011)
It is simple basic and complete. I uwe everytime to clean out chambers and lug holes. Everytime i am surprises about THE amount of dirt i get out of them.
Handles, big improvement over original(23/09/2011)
I purchased a new action cleaning kit a month ago as my original Sinclair action cleaning kit is boxed up in a storage facility after a move. The new handles are much improved and the quality is still as high as the originals (originals purchased at the factory store in Ft. Wayne, IN 15 years ago). I've since shown my 13 year old how cleaning the action lug area produces grease, grime, fouling and brass chips collected during a shooting session. I know now that the original will accompany my Son after he leaves our home in a few years so he can clean his own rifle actions. Terrific lifetime quality made in the midwest, well worth a few extra bucks.
Try It -- You'll Love It(18/01/2012)
Used a home-made version for years, but was always alot of work and not as efficient as I wanted. Finally purchased this one and couldn't be more pleased. It gets the job done and does it well. It's one of those tools that makes you say, "I can't believe I waited so long to get this." It's very high quality & easy to use --- just what you'd expect from Sinclair. You won't be disappointed.
Brass handle insert rotates(10/09/2016)
I noted right off when cleaning R700, AR-15 and AR-10 Chambers | Lug Recesses that the brass insert rotated within the plastic handle which mitigated the usefulness of the tool. I drilled both handles for 1/8" dia roll pins such that the diameter of the pins passed through the brass insert with full purchase. Less than adequate torque transmission problem solved.
I have not actually been able to use the tool yet. I just want to warn potential buyers that the lug recess tool will not go into bolt action rifles with a bolt smaller than about .558. If you have a bolt that is smaller you will need to order part number 749-000-729 as a replacement for the head on the tool that you will receive. The head size on this part is .550 in diameter.
This Really Works!(16/02/2011)
It is amazing how much crud can get built up in your lug recesses. This tool easily removes this crud. I like the way the cotton swabs attach to the tool and think that the squared off shape does a better job in the recesses.
Sinclair Action Cleaning Tool (21/11/2014)
This tool works great with the cotton rolls, not so much with the square felts. The felts only work with certain actions, IE: Remington 700, Winchester Mod. 70 etc. Check the size of your action before using the felts or you'll risk getting them stuck. The tool itself is well made and intended purpose is achieved with patience. The handle on my tool pulled free of the rod when trying to remove a stuck felt from a Browning X-Bolt .270WSM. I just epoxied the ferrule back in and all is good. Kind of a pain to screw and unscrew the tiny Allen head retainer. Overall the tool is well made and works as long as you pay attention.
Not Very Useful(19/07/2014)
Other cotton rolls, with stitching along their sides, hold shape much better than these. These rolls don't have the stiffness required to swab into the corners of the lug recesses in a bolt action. They are almost worthless.
Cleaning Felts(21/11/2014)
These cleaning felts work fine with the action cleaning tool if you use them in an action they will fit in. They will not work in a Browning X-Bolt chambered in .270WSM. Do not force the felt in the action or you risk getting them stuck. I used them on Remington 700 and Winchester Model 70 actions just fine. They do clean well when used with a gun cleaning solvent. The felts I've used have a small hole in them for the Allen head retaining screw to pass through. They measure .9250" long, so make sure they will fit in your action as they are not very pliable.
