We’ve taken our most popular dovetail cutters and cryogenically treated them to give you a tool that will cut the toughest material and last longer, saving down-time and increasing your production. Our cryo-treated tools have been deep-treated to -320°F to change the molecular structure of the metal alloy, making them denser and removing the stresses that lead to tool fatigue. Cryo-treated tools do not look different than untreated tools, so we’ve added two rings near the working end to differentiate them from our regular cutters. Do Not Exceed 700 RPM or cutters will break.
SPECS: Cryo-treated, high-speed steel.

Great Cutter, great price(23/09/2012)
Worked excellent to machine the "novak" cut on my 1911 with trijicon HD sights. The .005" undersize from the typical .495" cutters gave more 'meat' to dress with a file to fit the sight in tight. As for durability, we'll see, but cryo vs hSS $ wise is close, so why not get the cryo?
One time use but does a great job(23/12/2012)
I bought this knowing it was most likely going to be one time use. Used it at 400RPM with slow passes and a ton of cutting oil to mill a slot into my M&P for a slideracker. Worked great, but the cutters are now completely dull. It's a throwaway, but a 3rd of the price of a carbide. Also, you want to mill out the center of the dovetail with a carbide endmill first so this is only doing the angled portions.
Pleasantly Surprized(05/03/2010)
The slide I was working on was really quite hard, and I had some reservations about using anything but carbide to cut the rear dovetail. However, after my previous experience with Brownells' satisfaction guarantee, I decided to try the Cryo-Treated cutter.
It cut that hard slide like butter!
works excellent(27/12/2014)
Cut a Caspian commander slide for a Novak style sight. Ran it at 650 RPM and 1 IPM just to be safe and it cut easily. First came in with a 1/4" end mill and made a .260 wide by .075 deep slot then used this cutter .075 deep. Worked like a charm, job finished in less than half an hour taking my time.

Cryo-treated dovetail cutters offer enhanced durability and longer lifespan due to deep cryogenic treatment to -320°F, altering the metal's molecular structure.
These cutters are designed to handle tough materials efficiently, increasing production and reducing downtime.
Identifiable by two rings near the working end, these tools must be used at speeds not exceeding 700 RPM to prevent breakage.
